hi, I' read quite a bit on pregnant dogs, but the one thing I can't find
much on is how much of a chance is there that my 2 year old
Jack russell may be pregnant by only tieing up once with my niegbors Jack russell? Yes we had plans on spaying her when she tuned a yearold but nieghbors moved in with a male jack russell so we held off for her next heat which was last week, but they only managed to tie up once (tall female, short male, lol). IS it a good chance she is or not? if not then we're not gonna try again. Luckly neighbors use to breed before so I'll be learning alot from them. So is it a good chance she is pregnant if they only tied once? Thanks for any response.

There is a VERY good chance your dog is pregnant. It only takes one time. Often breeders will allow the dogs to be together twice to have a slightly higher chance for babies.
You are really fortunate both dogs are the same breed, at least all the babies will be full-blooded.
Usually by about 50 days you can visually tell if she is pregnant, especially if she is carrying 4 or 5 pups.
Dont let the nasty, snide comments about "back yard breeder" bother you.
I am sure the breeders of professional show dogs did not start out with "built in knowledge" of everything they needed to know.
A vast majority of people are thrilled to own a full blooded dog that was the result of an "accident"
Just because the dog does not have a pedigree full of Champions or a wall full of awards does not mean he/she is not the entire world to someone.

It is very possible that your dog is pregnant after only one time. I recommend that after about 45 days from the time she was bred, you take her to your veterinarian to be x-rayed. In the x-ray they (hopefully) will be able to tell you if she if pregnant and give you an estimate on how many puppies to expect. This is a pretty accurate way to determine pregnancy in a dog.

Yes....they only have to tie once to get pregnant....most breeders will do it a second time just to be on the safe side but once is enough....my pug and boxer only bred one time and they both got preg.......get ready for pups....Count 63 days from the day they tied up and that's when they are due.....Good Luck

www.shaferhund.com/gsd_pregnancy.asp Go to this site and type in the date you breed her. This is a dog pregnancy calendar. It also explains what is going on and when it should happen. It only takes one breeding, but they say it is better to let them mate more than once. This calendar is great!
