Take certian parts of the bible and use them to justify their beliefs but ignore other parts? Better out, why ignore parts of the bible you don't like? Can you really justify ignoring the word of god because it doesn't "apply " today? Wouldn't god want you to follow EVERY single scripture? Why would God have it put in the bible if he wanted you to ignore it?

Why can't we for instance still stone people? I know it's against the law but God seems to want it if he put it in there.

If your whole answer is just a bible quote then move along because I don't wanna hear it. You'll just get ignored. And hers's novel idea, have opinion of your own.

Yea once again why don't stone whores anymore? if it wasn't against man's law you'd do it right? It is in the bible. Same with selling your kids into slavery. God wants you to do it so........

You noticed that too.
It is like the Israelites did, always applying the blessings of God to themselves, and using the malediction as a judgment upon others. Good for you to see this. Now the trick is, how do we learn all the lessons in the Bible? So as to truly receive them.
Oh for steveb106 take any quote from any book out of context,
oil'a, contradiction.
Eye for an eye? Still true. The debt will be paid.
Turn the other cheek? The dept was paid by Jesus willing ransom sacrifice. So those accepting this ransom are expected to forgive others as they have been forgiven.
One quote; before Jesus intervening act.
2nd reference, after Jesus intervening act.
Net result: no contradiction. Ta Da!

Stoning was a method of execution. They did not have the electric chair or lethal injection. They had stones and swords and they used both.
A serious Christian will use the Whole Bible. Some parts do not apply today. Some parts were for specific people at specific times. The Bible tells us that we have events recorded in it for examples . Some of the Bible is parables, or metaphors. Instructions that we are supposed to carry out and obey today are clearly defined.
You must study it to understand. Christianity like anything else has members who don't exactly represent what God intended. Some are as good as can be, others are not-some are outright false.

i think the bible, Quran and any other religious book; don't really ask people to follow what it says EXACTLY because no body is perfect .. it is just there as a guide so that people have a beleif and a meaning to life, so that they can live their lives in peace and learn to love everyone even those we hate. The thing is that when people read such books they themselves have different concepts on what it actually means for example the Quaran and the Bible both state to live in peace and love one another but why are there still terrorists? the bible and the Quaran also state other smaller issues like stealing is wrong and so is adultry >>> but why do people still do it? it all leads back to the same thing of how people actually concept everything and that is what the real issue is.

hope this helped

and God Bless

I am a Christian Pastor and I have struggled with this for years.
I can't find a place in the Bible where Jesus said start a new religion.
Pastors want to teach that because of Christ the law is dead and then turn around and place people under the law because of tithing.
The law is dead, but homosexuals will burn in hell.
The law is dead but divorce is OK.
Jesus said, I have not come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it.
That means it had a purpose.
Reconcile man to God.
We now have that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and Grace from God.
But what about the law.
Personally I think it's alive and well, we are the sick ones.
We, as Christians either abide by ALL GOD'S WORD or none of it.
AS Jesus said; Why do you call me Lord, Lord and not do what I say?

The bible is a compilation work of fiction, history, philosophy, and opinion written by many people long ago and translated into and from many different languages by people with their own agendas. Portions of it have to be out of date because small parts of much more recent documents, like our own constitution, are out of date. But, the bible has always been intended to be a moral and spiritual guidebook. People use it like any reference book but they can interpret its poetic text to suit their own ends, be they noble or selfish.
The bible is such a long and storied book that any expert can find some phrase that could be a metaphor for something in real life. This isnt magical, its mathematical and proven by another long and storied writing by Nostradamus.
Here's the secret: Take a blank book 600 pages long with say 50 lines per page and fill each line with random phrases and numbers that could be intrepreted in many different ways. A good portion of this book will make sense in one way or another because you can use many different interpretations of THIRTY THOUSAND lines to do it. Now say that this book is lost for a thousand years and a hundred major events have occurred every year since. Would it really be suprising that many different interpretaions of 30,000 lines predicted a few of 100,000 major events in the last thousand years?
I guess what I am trying to say is the best way to understand an artist is to study his art. Forget the bible, churches, and religions. These are all creations of man and are used for control. Pay attention to the land, sky, sea, plants and animals, loved ones and feelings. These are the timeless and true masterpieces of god.

Because people don't realize that the bible is only a history book and not really meant to be taken so literally. It's like any other book in the world. "Christians" hide behind the bible and use it to thier advantage but never want to follow it to the T. Whatever, everyone just needs to chill out! The only good thing King James was to translate the bible (and it's not even translated right), he was a tyrant! Just do good, and die and go Home.

Any Christian should not take parts of the Bible that they like and use them for their own purposes. The Bible should be taken as a whole. Old Testament laws were for Old Testament people. Jesus's death on the cross fulfilled the law, and we are now to go by His teachings. One example is...circumcision is no longer a sign of the covenant between God and man...baptism replaced circumcision. But that's only one purpose of baptism. The main purpose is for the symbolic purpose of cleansing of sins and as an outward show of your inner faith. Another is...Jesus replaced blood sacrifices, so blood sacrifices are no longer necessary. Still, there are things we can learn from the Old Testament in how to live our lives.

Why do people do what they do? Choice.

There are some things which have ended such as animal saccrifice, or the Law of Moses, but all other scriptures should still apply to a certain extent.

You mentioned stoning, you have to realize that at that time, the Israelites did not have prisons, and it was to show the importance of God's law. Today we have a prison system that is supposed to meet out punishments as directed by the courts. The Bible syas that we should obey our governments as long as the laws do not contradict his law.

One primary reason that most people do not accept the whole Bible is that they are comfortable in their present situation, and don't want to make the personal saccrifices necessary to climb up higher. Some times a passage of scripture will step on their toes and point to sin in their lives that they are not willing to give up. Also, there are a lot of people who believe the lie that everyone will go to heaven, and it doesn't matter what they do or say as long as they believe in Jesus. As an example: (Jam 2:19) "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." but they forget that Satan and his angels won't be allowed into Heaven even though they believe.

Mat 7:21-23
(21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
(22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
(23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

This passage is speaking of believers and church members; but because they do not accept the whole word, or because they do not overcome sin, they will be rejected by God. Also read Rev 3:14-22.
Personally I do accept the whole Bible, and try to obey Gods law through the strength of Jesus Christ.

I think that you are right there are many Christians who have pet parts of the Bible and ignore other parts. Certain denominations function almost exclusively in the Book of Acts and I wonder if they know there is 65 other books. But we don't follow certain things such as stoning because it was not written to us in the church, it was written to the nation of Israel. Jesus changed many things and has the perfect right to do that. They were not changed as much as they were fulfilled. Animals were sacrificed as a picture of Christ, after Christ died they were not necessary, but that doesn't make them wrong in their time, or a contradiction to the new testament.

Certain so called Christians only take the parts out of the Bible that they want to use to justify themselves and to get you to believe what they believe. If you read the entire verse or chapter you would see that it's not at all what the true meaning is, they take the wording compleatly out of context as to what it really means to change it around to say what they want it to say and to make themselves feel better, personally I think they have problem and I don't call them Christians, If God wanted it to say something else, he would have told the authors to write something else. As for the Old Testiment and New Testiment contadicting themselves, that's not true at all. In the old testiment they had different laws to go by but in the New testiment after Jesus came to the earth and died for our sins, we now have a new set of rules, for example we no longer have to make sacrifices of animals for our sins because Jesus paid for all of our sins when he died on the cross. I hope this helps.
