I dumped the 2-cycle oil gas mix from the gas tank of the push mower. Changed spark plug. Cleaned air filter. Still will not run. What now? For some reason, if pump the safety release handle, it will run for about 3 minutes, if I keep pumping the handle. Then it dies. Did the 2-cycle oil gas mix clog up the carburator? Or is pumping the safety release handle indicating some other problem?

You should start by checking any fuel filter in the fuel delivery first. Oil can clog some filters. If that is fine, thoroughly spray the carb and inside cylinder head while turning the engine over, let it evaporate, and put a new plug in (use a industrial carb cleaner). Fire it up again. Try hotter gas, 92 octane with fuel cleanser additive like techroline. It is unlikely that you did any damage, but there could be buildup in the head that needs to be burnt off. I did worse once, and double added mix to the outboard motor. It didn't mix well, and sludged one of the reeds closed, poof! Bad me. The safety release handle is strange, if the above doesn't work, just call a dealer of your brand and see if it's a common problem, without mentioning the oil of course...

You didn't mention whether there is a choke on your unit. Be sure it is properly set (for cold or hot start?). I would try starter fluid sparingly by spraying a little in the air intake before trying to start the engine. Also check if there is a drain valve (or fitting?) that permits the carburator to be drained of bad gas. Another trick is to take off the air cleaner cover and block air flow with a clean rag while pulling the starter cord to suck fresh gas into the engine. Pull a couple times. Be sure that any new spark plug is properly gapped for your machine (at least compare it with the old plug if that worked OK?). Good luck.

The oil filter shall be cleaned, dried and put back. Crosscheck by removing spark plug and shorting and see whether adequate sparks emanate. If both these are alright the mower should work.

Do this:
Drain the fuel filter if there is one fitted
Close the fuel stop valve
Drain the carburettor completely
Open the fuel stop valve
Start the motor and it will be fine.
There must still be some 2 stroke fuel residue in the carburettor, that's why the motor cannot start.

If you can get it to run for 3 min. then a little injector cleaner added to the gas might clean it up real good.
