I took the same dosage, and it works well for me. It made me feel funny the first time, but now I can take it and feel ok. I don't take it regularly, only when I'm really anxious and can't sleep, or I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack. Good luck, I hope it helps you!

Xanax for me works best when I take it in the mornings. It keeps me from panicking, but it also keeps me awake better. I've taken Clonozepam in the past, but even if I take it before bed and get a good night's sleep it still makes me feel uber-tired the next day.

Now, after taking it whenever I have panic attacks, Xanax works in about an hour, mellowing me out. In the beginning it would take up to a day to work for me. Really, it just depends on other drugs you've taken for anxiety as well as your body type. Also, your level of anxiety will play a part.

And WHATEVER you do, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT drink red wine with Xanax. You will get very sick to your stomach. It feels like having a hangover, except you'll only have had a little to drink and it will hit you within about 45 minutes. Steer clear of other alcohol to be safe, but for sure the red wines.

You should begin to feel some effect in a few days and the full effect after 2-3 weeks. I personally have never taken it but it is effective for many. Whether it's right for you remains to be seen but it's not the only anxiolytic available.

A few precautions: Smoking may decrease the effectiveness, alcohol may cause increased dizziness, impaired coordination & memory and somnolence (to name a few). Don't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while on this med as it can increase blood levels of the drug. After long term use: Don't stop taking it suddenly. There can be withdrawal symptoms, including seizures. If you're taking the extended release formula, swallow them whole.

Well, hope this helps. Xanax is primarily made up of Aprazolam. At 2 mg I'd say your at somewhat on initial dosage.

If your still still feeling anxious but coupled with depression, I suggest you to either go over to Walmart and get some professional pharmacy help. That way they may advice you to either stop medication and try something else OR depend on a stronger Xanax medication. In a nutshell it all boils down to your response so u'll need to consult your doctor regularly.

Good heavens. I have to disagree with the people who responded to say it takes several weeks to work, and also the folks who say you're on a "weak" dose.

A weak dose would be 3/4 of a milligram. 2 mg is a moderate to moderately large dose.

It's also not like antidepressants that can take weeks to reach therapeutic levels in your blood. Xanax takes about 15 or 20 minutes to begin working. In the event you're taking it for panic disorder (anxiety attacks), you should feel a definite difference in your attack in that time frame.

As a bandaid but it doesn't cure the emotional hurt you've gone through that drove you to start taking it. It's be a buffer, something to help you heal your heart. It made me loopy so I couldn't take it and I know people dependant on it just to have a semblance of functionality. Everything is contingent on whether you've taken your pill or not and that's a sad way to live.

You have to get to the heart of the problem if you ever want to truly feel better, meds aren't going to do that but they can help in the process and then you need to get off of them

I'm guessing you took it before you went to bed and didn't get to see that it was working for you. When I take it, it works in fifteen to twenty minutes. It works very well for me. I will feel a bit sleepy, my body feels very relaxed and I feel, over all, very good. When i take Xanax i can tell it is working because when faced with something that would normally cause me anxiety i wait for the physical symptoms to happen like the rapid heartbeat, the adrenaline rush, nervousness and jittery feeling but it doesn't happen.

It works, but it's best to put it under your tongue, so it gets to the brain receptors faster. It takes longer if you swallow it like an aspirin. Your doctor may have to adjust the dosage at a later date. The best time to take it is before bed unless you are using it for panic attacks!
This can become addictive and if you get caught
on the street with some and don't have your RX
bottle, you can be arrested for carrying a conrolled dangerous substance.

I took xanax for four years.....it is instant release...it starts working right away...it works by drowning out all your troubles..I was on a low dosage to start out which turned into many pills....enough to where I took so many I started having withdrawls because they stopped working for me...then I had to be admitted to hospital where I had to be weened and monitored....ALL the nurses at the hospital don't like it when some of these Dr's like the one I had prescribe xanax....it is suppose to be a short term drug...NOT years...also xanax is the hardest drug to come off from when addicted without causing death...I learned that at hospital...after you come off xanax all the problems that you drowned out all RETURN!!! So you accomplish nothing in the long run....Try something else....because eventially xanax will stop working for you too...Also when on xanax it became like gold to me...I would protect it w/ my life...It IS BAD!!! but while taking it you will think it's good because it does give you releif....but really..it is like putting sugar on s***!! I wish I knew all I just told ya.before I took them..cause I would have stayed OFF them...plus you become VERY forgetful and you can't focus.....everyone will be afraid to ride in car with you when you drive.....there are too many other drugs out there that aren't addictive....hope you make the right decision....ohhhh...if you decide to take them don't let anyone know because there are alot of druggies out there that want them...

I've not taken Xanax, but I've taken other drugs that are chemically very similar (Ativan comes to mind). These drugs do work, and they typically work rapidly and have a very noticeable effect.

Be careful while taking Xanax, do NOT drive while you are on it. And do NOT use alcohol or illicit drugs while using it. It is quite potent and works very well when used correctly.
