My friend asked me if she uses nail polish, if she could infect her other toe/finger nails. Also she wanted to know if she would infect her mom if she borrowed her nail polishes.

I have no clue.

If she has nail fungus, she should not wear nail polish. First she needs to take it all off, then if her nails are thickened, they need to be filed down until they are as thin as before or close. She should go directly to a podiatrist, and they can also file nails down for her. Pen-lac and the other products that dissolve the nail work too slowly, and who wants to put some gunky white stuff on your nails twice a day. Fingernails should be treated to Badger Balm Cuticle Rub twice a day. It smells nice and helps yous fingernails recover. She should also cover her toe nails with Vicks Vapo Rub at night (careful not to get it in the eyes.) After a month of that, it will probably be OK to use nail polish again. Caution: she might get ingrown toe nails.

Never share make up or nail polish with anyone else! Gross!

I have it and I have for 50 years. Got it from borrowing my Father's boots in 1956. My suggestion, better be safe than sorry. It last forever. On the up side it is not a big deal. There are far far worse things that can happen to you. After 40 years of marriage my wife and none of my 3 kids caught it. These nuts that think it is gross need to lighten up. Give an old guy a break.

Actually, nail fungal infections are transmittable, and people with active infections should not share grooming products with others.
