It's more or less the Judeo-Christian or Islamic of attaining Nirvana. It is a kind of self-realization or enlightenment, an activation of divine potential. It goes beyond simply following the laws supposedly set forth by God and embraces the belief that God is inside you.

For some, this can be interpreted as blasphemy because it approaches an almost pantheistic view of the universe in which God is inside everyone rather than a distant force to be reckoned with.

Another definition of messianic consciousness is simply Jesus' consciousness of and eventual acceptance of his role as messiah to the Jews.
