This question was first asked millennia ago.

The first debate on this topic occurred, when one individual saw God as being in the Heavens, and another individual saw God as being the Earth.

The next debate occurred when one individual claimed that God revealed himself to the individual. And the rest of the group said "rubbish".

The next debate occur ed when an individual claimed that "God did not say 'x' when he made his revelation to his Prophet", and a second individual claimed: "Why yes, God did say 'x'. Just look at this manuscript". Whereupon the first individual says: "But that manuscript contains later additions that are the marks of a forger."

Thus now, in the present day, there is no purely objective way to know which God, of which religion, is the true God. Or if neo-paganism, with its emphasis on "The One True Polytheism" is indeed the true religion.

On a subjective basis:
Of all of the "revealed religions", only one was revealed to a large population, at the same place and time. The sacred text of this religion was written within a century of this event.

An offshoot of that religion claims to have been revealed to several small groups --- the largest of which contained 500 men. The sacred texts of this group was written within fifty years of this event.

Alternatively, one can select the religion, on the basis of the oldest known manuscript. The idea being that God would have revealed himself sooner, rather than later.

Or, one can simply look within, and claim that whatever one learns, is a manifestation of God. A concept that most religions would find abhorrent.

In the end, one has to accept God on faith. Gnosis comes after the faith.

Ask the Lord Jesus to come into your heart and you won't have to look far.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Are you hoping that God is sittin' up in heaven, sippin' a cup of coffee, surfin' the net and is on here, Yahoo Answers, and is going to answer this with a "Well, hello there, old chap! How ya' been? Oh, don't tell me, I already know all about it. Don't worry, dude, I'm here for ya'!"

I'm sorry, but though I do not believe God exists, I'm fairly certain that if He does, you won't be getting a response from Him through here....

... but, you never know.

That is the problem. Most people look outside of themselves for God when God is within. God is the conscious energy that makes up all living things.

Go to the church nearby and listen to the preaching.

When the pastor invites for you to give your life to Jesus, go in front of the church and proclaim to the whole church that Jesus is God in your life.

After that, begin reading the Bible and pray/talk to Him little by little. You will find out that God is actually someone who is near you.

If you are looking for God, you know there is a God.
If you know there is a God, you know you are not alone.
If you look in the mirror, you are looking in the right direction,
Within. That's where you keep God close and personal.
then when others look into your eyes they may see what they seek.

You're right, there is a God. And, although he's out there, he also cares about you. Suggestion:

Try calling out to God in Jesus's name and ask him to reveal himself to you, and I believe he will.

Also, try reading the gospel of John. I think it'll help.

Blessings to you!
