Yes, marking in your Bible helps you when you go back and look at a passage. Remember, the words of the Bible are holy, not the actual paper and ink.

I had a fundamentalist girlfriend for a while. I used to go to her Bible study, and everyone brought a study bible the size of the NYC phone book. They all highlighted and underlined. I was surprised. No matter how you feel about The Bible, -a- Bible is just a book, just paper. I don't think it shows disrespect to underline or highlight. It doesn't make the Bible harder to read like, for instance, cutting paper dolls out of it. Someone who sees it later will think "Wow, someones been STUDYING this Bible!" That's not a bad thing, is it? 8^)

Yes of course.I mark in my Bible things that mean something to me and I have written notes all over it about the scriptures on that page. When I study I won't forget what I've already learned and when someone else picks up my Bible to use it, the marks and writings might help them too.It is just a book. It's sacred when you get something from it,but the book itself has no powers.

yes. absolutely. Anytime that you can access something
from the Bible quickly using highlights, I can't imagine that
our creator would have a problem with that. You're highlighting
the Word. That's got to be ok.

The big picture is that although it should be respected, if it helps you to mark things, then that is what is important. The whole point of the Bible is to bring people closer to God and Jesus Christ, so as long as that is your goal, don't worry about marking the book.

yes, it is okay to highlight the Bible. I dont believe that anyone has ever been punished or yelled at for doing it. I bet pastors/priests might even do it when preparing a sermon.

Yup, it's just a book. It becomes the Book of all books until you actually read it. People who revere the book of Quaran don't write in thier book. The Bible contains Holy Scriptures that are significant of course but it only can help you if you read it.

It is definitely ok, God wants you to study bible, not worship it like an idol. I believe that's why God didn't write to the himself, but let man do it, because if God wrote some fanatical religious group would put the Bible on display to be worshiped rather read.

If you are like highlighting a passage of somthing then yeah that is okay because we do it at my church all the time but if you are writing like a phone number or whatnot then i dont really think that is very respectful.
