It is hair product's that you use on your hair. They leave residue in your hair, and you have to get it out, so that you can have healthy hair.

Any kind of hair product can "build up" in your hair or on your scalp. Meaning residue is left behind from the conditioner or other hair product. A clarifying shampoo will take care of it!

Build up is anything that's gets deposited in your hair that needs a little bit of help to get out.

Usually you can just shampoo it out, but if you do, make sure it doesn't have any ingredients that end in -cone or -conol. Those CAUSE build up.

Other (gentler) ways to get rid of it are to add a little baking soda to your shampoo or conditioner, or to rinse your hair in diluted vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar is a popular choice.

Build up comes from the products you use to style your hair with, like mousse, gel and so on..these products tend to stick to the hair even after washing...try a rinse of 1 cup of vinegar to two quarts of water to rinse the build up out.

residue left on you hair from hair products and environmental factors, using a stripping shampoo (you can mix some baking soda into your regular shampoo) will remove this residue.
