The response to the question "Is Mormonism Christian?" depends on the substance of the question and its context. If the inquiry is more theological and religious than theoretical and academic, then the question and answer are normative and depend upon the presuppositions that underlie the query. However, the question can be examined by asking about the significance and implications of labeling and naming in the world of religion. While much modern Latter-day Saint literature has emphasized elements in common between the LDS Church and other Christian denominations, the frequent use of "Mormon" among the early Saints shows that the unique doctrines and beliefs of the Saints—such as the Book of Mormon, the gathering, and the leadership of the prophet—enabled the Saints to withstand the centrifugal pull of Protestant hegemony and establish their own identity. Likewise, the Saints referred to everyone outside of their religion as "Gentile," a practice that continued into this century. Now, with their identity firmly established, the Saints no longer feel constrained to be segregated from other denominations. At the same time, however, new conservative Christians have adopted the label "Christian" to unite themselves and to exclude outsiders or those who may differ in their doctrinal beliefs. The need to show this divergence has grown with the increased prominence of the Church and its members and with the realization that conservative Christians share with the Saints a common social and political agenda.

I agree with FR chuck
In order for critics to claim we are not Christian, they are forced to abandon the simple explanation in Acts 11:26 and use non-Biblical
criteria. It appears that evangelicals have attempted to appropriate the term "Christian" for their own exclusive use, and apply to it an unbiblical meaning. One often-heard position states that because Mormons reject the evangelical doctrine of the trinity, they have no claim to being Christian. If this is a requirement of Christianity, then none of the Bible's prophets or apostles were Christian either. The word "trinity" and its accompanying precepts are nowhere found in the Bible, nor can they be found in centuries of writings by early Christian leaders following the deaths of the apostles.
If we turn to the Bible for information on the term Christian, we find the word is used only three times: in Acts 11:26, 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16. The only definite information about the origin of the name "Christian" is found in the first of these scriptures. It says the disciples were called Christians for the first time at Antioch. The disciples mentioned were, of course, the followers of Jesus. In its simplest form then, "Christian" is a name reserved for those who are followers of Jesus Christ.

The name of the Church is pretty evident...The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
WE believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
ohh and so everyone knows...My Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior...saved Lazerus from death, he forgave the adulturous woman who clung to his robe, he fed the thousands with a fish and a loaf of bread, he turned the water to wine and he paid for all of our sins at Gethsemane....sound familiar? Not to mention dying on a Cross whose superscription is not even the same in the 4 gospels...i think that is a little bit interesting...
Matt27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Mark 15:16 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS
Luke 23:38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS
so what WAS written EXACTLY word for word on this superscription??
When the other Christians can give me a reason for this as well as how they QUICKLY AND CONVENIENTLY discount the APOSTLE JAMES when he said in James 2 that faith without works is dead....then I will admit that somehow someway...Mormons are not Christian...
Good devout Christians in the Mormon faith don't do things in the convenient way...being a true Christian is HARD, regardless of your religion and is meant to be hard...the rules are clear and easy to learn but they're hard to follow 100%. Only one man got it right and that is our Savior.
and Mormons are only called Mormons because of the Book..if you read the next line of the book though...it is "a second witness of Christ..." and if you throw at me the revelations scripture..then go read Deuteronomy 4...same scripture..so then..let's dump the better part of the Bible shall we?

Yes, we are. Jesus Christ is the savior of all us with God his father at the head. We are baptized in Christ's name and do everything we can to live by Christ's example. We have a living prophet, Gordon B. Hinkley, as they did in the primitive church when Christ reigned personally on the earth. We have 12 apostles as he did then. We believe the Bible to be the word of God. We also believe the Book of Mormon the be the word of God.

Alot of them are. This is a grossly misunderstood sect. I have alot of good friends that are Latter Day Saints, they are all very good people. More so, than in a "traditional" christian church.
Are there some extremists, sure. But not as many as Islam has, I guarantee that !

I am Mormon and YES we are very much Christian (our church is named after Christ afterall). Please don't listen to what non-believers say- they usually don't have a lot of facts right. Go to the source...read more at lds.org if you want to know more.
sarell: where are you getting your info??? because we have different, sacred garments, that makes us not Christian? Our garments are an expression of covenants we have made with ourselves and the Lord.
