It just depends on how much your willing to spend to live in the diferent areas. Summerlin is one of the nicer areas but it's the most expensive. North Las Vegas where I live and it's nice, a good distance from the strip, and the schools are better there, in my opinion.

I'm moving there in a month with my husband. We just spent 2 weeks there looking at condos/apartments/houses whatever we can get last minute. I have 2 friends from there born and raised and they said stay away from north and east. I guess Jones and MLK are bad areas and not safe. I LOVED Summerlin area up by red rock casino. It's inexpensive and beautiful...very safe too. We looked at apartments on town center rd. at Charleston. check craigslist for places, we found a 5,000 sq foot home in a gated community to rent for 6 months for $ 2000 a month! It's crazy how cheap it is there ( I'm in phoenix so it's sooo expensive here) good luck and pick up that apartment guide. Check Henderson/green valley too. anything near or around the strip is old and ghetto. Go new and west.

How much are you willing to pay? North west is a nice area. You are probably better off renting a house. Stay away from Palisades Apartments on West Lake Mead. They show you a very nice model apartment and they don't let you see the actual apartment until move-in day. They have a very bad roach problem & they say that they spray, but they don't. Not a good place to live.

The southwest is a great area. There are great schools, Summerlin, Lakes, and Rhodes Ranch are all in this area.
