A musical instrument is always a good idea. That way you are not just buying her a toy to play with for a short while but something which will give her years of pleasure.
Learning to play an instrument is very good for discipline also.
Starting to learn when very young is the best time because young children are like sponges 7 pick up new things very quickly & easily.

Something that might be a little old for her (by maybe a year or two) might be a good idea actually. If she has everything else. You'd be suprised how quickly a child can pick up on something thats supposedly 'beyond' them if theyre given the chance. Try something to do with writing or reading. Kids can start learning phonics and playing with markers at any age.

I like stuff that they "DO" instead of "play with"

Play doh.

Finger paint (you can take Vanilla pudding and add food color to make 'edible' finger paint)

All girlies love DRESS UP. Even my son does - he's 4 and has a superman, THING from Fantastic 4, scooby doo and skeleton costume.

Blocks or Legos. They can play for hours and it builds their creativity.

Magna Doodles are AWESOME. They can draw and erase, practice their letters and the magnet pen won't mark up the walls.

My last suggestion is pricier than the rest. "Little People". My son loves them and plays with them often - tells stories about the characters and acts out things with them.

That's just a few ideas from me. They seem to outgrow all the talking dolls and expensive toys.

Good luck!

Anything of Dora the Explorer. Kids love her. Just about any kind of doll will do though because all little girls love dolls. Sit and Spins are nice too. Dressup outfits you can get at Walmart and play jewelry. Kids love to play dressup. Hope your daughter will have a Happy Birthday!

don't get her a prezzie. Spend the money on a day out she will remember. We are doing that with our girl who's 3 next week. Kids don't need THINGS.they need fun and emotional attachment. You don't have to give your child everything. We are on a low income and our kids have almost nothing, but they enjoy going to the park and taking the dog for a walk the most and playing in the stream at our local country park.

How about a nice cedar chest? Then you fill it with old vintage clothing or even just garage sale specials... Add some fancy hats and accessories like feather boas or some costume jewelry. Lots of little girls like dressing up like their mothers. She could get hours / years of enjoyment playing dress up. Then when she outgrows this game, she'd have a nice chest to store other interests/toys and things in.

Open up a bank account for her. Give her a small pressie to unwrap and put money into the account. Family will probably turn up with lots of gifts that she dosn't need either so encourage them to give money too. She will be very glad of it when she is older. My brother started this when his son was born. he is only two now and has a small fortune in the bank already

My mom spent a lot of time building "dress up boxes" for the little girls in our nighborhood. A cute box, a pair of high heels, something she can put around her head and pretend it's long hair... an almost empty bottle of perfume to smell pretty and a lot of junk costume jewelry.a big Easter bonnet type of hat. then invite her firends over for a make believe tea/ dress up party... We all played that when we when going up.. and still blush.. I do when I see pictures of me walking down the sidewalk with my mom petty coat on my head. oh what lovely long hair I had .lol

Go to the dollar store and get a big basket of water balloons. squirt guns, sprinklers, silly string, old dress up clothes from your closets or a garage sale ( put them in a suitcase) They also have these great smore makers that make smores inside. They can be a lot of fun.

Take her shopping to a nice big toy shop on her birthday and let her choose. She will probably want everything, but I'm sure with a little persuasion, you can get her to drop the whole shop and choose something special. You might need a few hours!
