a good place to take your gently used toys, children's clothing and women's clothing is to a women's shelter. many women flee to these shelters with nothing but their children and the clothes on their backs. they rely heavily on the goodwill of the community to ensure that they have clothing, food and sources of entertainment (and distraction) for their children while they attempt to create some semblance of a normal life for their newly-destroyed family.
finding the phone number for a shelter is easy enough, should be listed in the front pages of your local phone book. they won't allow you in the shelter, but will allow you in the gates in order to deliver your things.
i know a lot of the drop boxes, such as good will simply re-sell the donated items, therefore, women in shelters who most often have no access to bank accounts once shared with their abusive husbands, have no access to the goods that have been donated there.
i prefer to skip the middle man and deliver right to the source. i know that children in the shelter are most appreciative.

Most hospitals and children's centers will no longer accept used stuffed animals because there is no way of guaranteeing the batting is not contaminated.
There is an organization called Toy Rescue Mission in Washington that accepts them (or they did when I visited a couple years ago). Their website is http://www.netnweb4u.com/TRM/MonGift.htm.
Good luck.

Look for donation centers in your area. Here in Houston they have donation bins located all around the city where you can just drop things off.
