either don't drive it, ride a bike or tow an exxon tanker to your v-10 excursion with a hose hooked up to your gas tank.

Lighten the load. Remove everything that you don't need to tote around. You could drop the weight of an average passenger by getting rid of extra things that do nothing except ride around in your car. Chuck the K and N in favor of a high volume air filter system. Use synthetic oil for less friction. Inflate your tires five pounds over stock pressures but never beyond what the max is on the sidewall. AI did this on a Ford Exploder and gained 4 MPG.

Generally, "breathing easier" means improving airflow at intake (which the K&N, or a true Cold Air Intake will do) and dialing in back-pressure on exhaust (while many will strap on Flowmasters or similar, this is hardly a measured strategy).
But even with that, there's only so much economy you're going to be able to squeeze out of ten cylinders. My bet is your quickest route to improving gas mileage is your driving habits.
Work on slow, controlled accelerations and prudent use of the accelerator. You'd be surprised how, with the same equipment you've always had, your own driving tendencies can significantly improve gas mileage. Two of our cars have on-board computers that calculate gas mileage on the fly, and we've proven this to ourselves with both vehicles.

Excursion V10 takes gas, but make sure the water temperature is at operating temperature. The colder the water the richer the mixture.

You drive an Excursion and are concerned with fuel consumption??? Choose one or the other. You can't have both. Do the rest of us humble folk a favor and dump the rolling road block. Have you seen that new VW commercial with the megaphones? Hint hint. Hehe.

Trade it in for somthing more economical. There's no way that you'll get decent fuel economy from that beast no matter what you try. A 20% improvement might get you 2 MPG. Whoopie!
That said, if you consider trading it in, add up ALL of the costs involved. Your total cost of operation plus payments could just reveal that you're better off where you are right now. This is especially true if the vehicle is paid for.

Sell that damn beast and buy a Ford Escape, you people are killing my wallet. It would be cheaper to have a penis enlargement then drive the Excursion for your short-comings

Keep up on the maintenance, and keep your foot out of the gas. How you drive has a huge effect on fuel consumption. Sadly, there is no 'magic bullet' that increases mileage noticeably.

i'm sorry to say that you won't get good gas mileage driving a v-10 it's just not going to happen. the best thing to get good gas mileage is sell that beast and drive something with a v-6 to save gas money.
