Catholicism does not require statues nor idolizes them. They are there, along with pictures as reminder of the lives a holy person. You can have a catholic mass in the middle of the desert with nothing provided you had some bread and wine, and even that can be excluded if its not available.

Just because Catholics "adore" statues of Mary, Jesus or what have you, doesn't mean that they don't have real faith. I am not Catholic but my whole family and I have pictures of Jesus all throughout our homes. It is as a reminder of Jesus and all of what he has done for us. I would understand if people idolize a statue of, say, a dragon as their god, then that is when I would ask the question that you just did.

The Catholic Church is all about Jesus Christ. It is his Church. We don't worship statutes. We have statutes out of respect for the men and women that are in heaven with God. We use them to concentrate during prayer and to remember us of our faith.
We obey the command of Jesus in Luke 22:19 and John 6:53-56. We have the Eucharist , which is Jesus Christ himself.

If Christians say they worship Christ do they mean that they worship a son of a greater father? Christians need to understand that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is like the soul, the body and works of a single person. I don't worship three Gods as three finite men. I worship Jesus Christ the one Lord of all. Christians shouldn't point fingers until they know how to teach Christian monotheism.

Jesus Christ is the "I AM" or God Himself in a visible body.

"For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."
-- Colossians 2:9

"Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"
-- John 14:9

"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you Before Abraham was, I AM."
-- John 8:58

Generally, no Catholics adore statues. Some misguided ones might, but in a Church with 1.2 billion followers, some are bound to misinterpret the teachings. How many in your church have gotten it wrong? How many worship money, thinking the Lord gave it to them because they deserved it?

Besides, a test of faith is what you do with it. How are you living your calling? How do you respond to the grace given you?

Go to a Mass, just one. You can come with me this Sunday if you live in my area. www.washucsc.org. But after you go, please, tell me how many you see adoring statues. Tell me how many statues you see in my church.

Catholics adoration of saints is the same as other christians asking the congregations to pray for them.

keep in mind that Jesus is also a symbol of God. He is not God but God as a man.
