I am trying to cut back on sugar, I can't drink diet soda because it makes me ill. (anything w/splenda or aspartame makes me ill) I can't tolerate drinking plain water or the flavored waters either. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I have / had the same problem. I was developing high blood sugar and had to cut down on my sugar intake. Aspartame always made me nauseated... I could eat Splenda though without much problem. I do not like drinking plain water, but I do like the flavored waters. Do you like lemons? How about getting an 8 ounce glass of water, and taking a lemon that is cut into 4 parts and using as little or as much of it as you like and then adding maybe one or two teaspoons of sugar? It's like weak lemonade. The problem with sodas is the fact that they have such a HIGH amount of sugar in them. I would also advise cutting down a little at a time. If you are addicted to caffeine like I was then you could get headaches. good luck!

You just have to make yourself stop drinking soda and make yourself drink water. Soda (even diet) is terrible for you. The more you make yourself drink water, you'll find that nothing else relieves your thirst. There is really no easy way to stop, you just have to realize that you are hurting your kidneys, your esophagus, and you teeth. No to mention putting yourself at risk for diabetes. Are those sodas really worth all the health problems later on?

And as far as fruit juices, most of them have a lot of sugar too. If you want to drink juices, try mixing them half and half with sparkling water. It's much better for you.

You can't tolerate drinking plain water because you're not used to it. Make it your goal to drink one glass of water a day (whether you like it or not) and slowly work your way up to 8 glasses a day. Once you're properly hydrated your sugar cravings will disappear!

Well, you can get some club soda and some sugar-free flavor syrup (Torani makes a variety of really good ones) that doesn't have anything that makes you sick. Mix them together with some ice and you've got your very own soda flavored exactly the way you want it!
