HA HA! Yes, my toddler did the same thing. I was wondering if something was neurologically wrong with her. I'm happy to report that she is now a high functioning, athletic 8 year old.

As a second possibility, your child could possibly have an ear ache or a clogged ear that is messing up his equalibrium. If so, that will go away as well.

I definitly relate! I have a 13 month old son who is exactly the same. He has no fear when it comes to steps, ramps, chairs, anything he can get hurt on he goes straight for, its like we are on an all day treadmill chasing him and pulling him off of thins and picking him up after he falls. I have been told also by older people in my family about ear infections causing balance problems however he has none, he has been seen, I just try to remember that he just learned how to walk 3 months ago and he's growing rapidly and he's getting used to shoes, etc.... so he has alot to learn and more injuries to come. baby proof your house to the best of you ability and keep a close eye but dont rush for every little bump because he has to get used to it, he'll be bumping and bruising things on a daily basis for years! If it gets really awful for you there is something called a helmet you can find in www.onestepahead.com catalog. Sounds stupid but if your really worried about all the bumps and IF he'll keep it on it might be worth it. good luck

Oh, yes, I relate! My son had a lovely welt on his head last week. A recent growth spurt could explain the head bumping. Usually after a growing, they haven't figured out that they have to move differently (duck lower, move back more before bending). Another thing to consider is shoes. If your toddler has had a growth spurt, the shoes may not fit properly. An inner ear infection is a distant third. If he is pulling on his ear or banging his head with his hands, take him to the doctor. I'm hoping it isn't the third.

all toddlers are clumsy its part of learning....just make sure his clumsiness isn't anything new and that he hasn't sustained any major head injuries....ex) no slurred or irregular speech, eyes not focusing, vomitting etc....if he is just getting bumps like a normal kid does remember that he will grow out of it and he has to learn somehow. If he is getting really frustrated with his clumsiness at one certain activity you can distract him and try something else or you can assist him in whatever he is attempting to do. Good Luck :)

i swore my son was born with a third eye, he fell so much, we took him to the doctor everytime. he was fine just learning to walk and getting down his balancing. wel it never went away, to this day he is so clumpsy it is not even funny. there could be a glass of water in the middle of the floor, everyone walks around it but him, he will knock it over . he is a soccer player and is great on the feild but is clumpsy off the feild. hpofully your clumpsy babies clumpsiness will go away. good luck.

learning balance takes time ... and comes with cuts, bruises, bangs and nicks.....he's normal ..... get ready this is the starting point you'll be chewing your nails in a year or two and it keeps getting better .....they should be born with a hard hat and suit of armor sure would help the parents out.... relax, enjoy, and bite another nail

could possible be an inner ear infection. this would affect his equilibrium, and in turn, make him off balance a little bit.

He's probably growing so fast that his perception of depth and/or height is off. It'll get better...
