To me it is part of the movie-going experience and I enjoy it. However, now that you've asked this question it has made me reconsider my behavior at movies. I certainly don't want to ruin anyones experience at the movies. So, I'll try to be more cognizant of people that may be put off by it. Try giving someone a clue or tell them politely that they are being loud, so we'll know to move (if you were seated there first) or to munch quieter.

No, usually the movie theatre plays the sound so loud it's like being at a rock concert so have not had that problem. People who have annoying laughs are very bothersome though or people who don't know how to turn off a cell phone....

Yes I get annoyed too. But what's a movie without popcorn? Yet again, if it's that loud than people are just being plain rude.
Either they should turn up the volumn of the movie or be quieter!

Only if a person is smacking when they are eating the popcorn. What bothers me is when they are rattling candy wrappers through the quiet part of the movie! Or when they talk through the opening minutes of the movie!!! OR when they don't turn their cellphone off and you hear "yes... I am at the movies.... blah blah blah" Turn off the cellphones moviegoers!!!!!

That's not the ONLY thing that annoys me in the movie theater. You also have to cringe at the smell of what seems like gallons of gross fake butter all over their popcorn, the sound of hands shuffling around for more popcorn/chips/candy, babies crying, people talking and laughing when it's not appropriate (a.k.a a serious moment), 15 yr. olds that think they have a cool posse, and of course cell phones.
Maybe we should all just wait for the DVDs to come out eh?

I can't stand watching movies in a theater.
Between the talking, eating, people getting up and cramming back into their seats... ruins any film.
I prefer home.
I watched my final theater movie when there was a trailer for an Aaliyah movie and some jerk in the back explains to the whole room, 'She made this before she died!'. (Thanks, Einstein.) That was it. Haven't been to a theater, since.

The sound of eating popcorn never really disturbed me. The ones I don't like are the ones who won't stop talking.

Somewhat. But more at when a person buys nachos. Not only does the sound get to me, the sight makes me hungry.
