I read The Qur'an, and the hadiths (Prophet Muhammad's sayings), and I found answers to many of my questions, and it entered my heart. What exactly do I have to do? Should I learn Arabic? How do I do prayers and fasting? Can you give me good links please? No anti-Islamic answers please, I made up my mind already.

Is the this the tolerance Non-Muslims keep bragging about? (Shoot yourself, your going to hell, ..etc). Well, you're not so different than Muslim extremists. It's evident that extremists aren't exclusive to Muslims then, eh?

To Heart-beat,
Peace unto you,
Here's a nice link to start with:

My advice is, a person grows in Islam. I'm a born Muslima and it took me years to wear the Hijab. So, how can we expect for newly converts to wear it right away. Unless you see it of benefit for you do so. What is most important now is to learn how to make ablution, pray, fast, and learn more about Islamic creed. These are the basics, the rest you'll learn as you grow. Arabic is important but remember the majority of Muslims are non-Arabic speakers and still practice Islam. Remember don't crowd yourself with so much to do and forget the essentials.
To learn how to pray, these links should help:

First how to make ablution (wudu)
which is essential to prayer:

Prayer (I provided different sources as one might be clearer than the other to you)

Feel free to contact me for anymore questions, especially if you want a sisters feedback.

I'll keep you in my prayers and wish you the best in whatever you do. May Allah (swt) ease your journey and guide you to what He pleases.

Find two Muslims as witnesses, then say the Shahada in their presence:

La ilaha illa Allah, wa Mohamed arRasoulallah.
(There is no God but Allah, and Mohamed is the Messenger of Allah.)

By saying this, you officially become a Muslim. Congratulations! Go to a local mosque to see if there are any new classes for new Muslims, or if there are things you must learn as a new convert.

GOD BLESS YOU, and congrats again!!!

P.S. As for attire, dress modestly. The Qur'an says to cover the bosom and lower the garment. It also says to cover your "ornaments" and that when you walk, strike the feet on the ground in such a way that you don't cause attention to your ornaments. In other words, don't bounce or sashay. Be modest in your dress and in your mannerisms.

As for hijab, this is a personal choice. Many Muslims will tell you that women are commanded to wear it, but I've yet to see this command in the Holy Qur'an. Some Muslim women don't wear it, even in some Middle Eastern countries not all Muslim women wear it. If you choose to do so, then you don't have to cover the face, just the head and neck. I've seen some Muslim women cover only the hair, wearing a large beanie type cap, and leaving the neck uncovered.

Hijab is a personal choice. And btw, ignore the ignorant answers here. Develop a thick skin, because converts to any religion will always be persecuted. The ones who snicker and give useless dumb remarks, unfortunately, haven't been blessed with the true knowledge and understanding of Islam as you have. You are TRULY BLESSED!!!

Well, i can see that you're already swayed towards Islam, and I say you should convert to it. The Qur'an is the word of God, and Islam is the last religion sent by God. I'm a Muslim, but we do believe that Christianity was a religion from God, but it got corrupted over the years as did Judaism. God sent Islam as the final religion and the Qur'an as His final Book which He will never let be corrupted as were His Holy Books of the past(i.e. the Bible, the Torah, etc.) Islam does make sense and it has all the real answers on why we are here, what should we be doing, and so on. Islam is really the best choice. Islam is the real deal and I can ASSURE you that you would be MUCH happier in the hereafter if you chose Islam. Please trust me and you already know that Islam makes more sense. So, final answer, you should convert to Islam. EDIT: I wanted to add that if you convert to Islam, you shouldn't be converting to "sunniism" or any other sect like that. Allah sent ISLAM to us, not any other sect of religion. He wants us to be Muslims, not Sunnis or shias or wahabis or any other sect. As it says in the Qur'an" “...This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (5:3)

I asked myself this very same question about 14 years ago....
If you want to be Muslim. Just declare the there is only one god and Muhammad is his final prophet (you must also believe in all Prophets before him).
Islam came for God, not any person. As a revert to Islam i will only give one warning....Muslims are the same as Christians. Both are human, both sin, and both make mistakes. There is no one that can be perfect. remember there are good and bad in all people. So what ever you decide look at the teachings and not the people of the belief. Christians do not condone child sex abuse nor does Islam condone terrorism. Stay on the straight path....

I will not give you an anti-islamic answer as you have requested that. But I will ask you to really think hard before you transfer and consider the possibility that a god does not exist. Have you ever seen god or have any proof that he/she exists? Try believing in NO religion for a year or two and see what you think. Why not? What is there to lose? Are you going to die without having the crutch of religion by your side? I don't think so as I am not dead and have not believed in anything for 20 years and I live a very happy life. Try it out,

Assalamu alaikum sister. (Peace be with you, sister.) First, congratulations on your decision to revert to Islam. God has indeed blessed you with his mercy. God is great and works in amazing ways. In the Qur'an, it is mentioned that whomever God guides, is guided right right and whoever God doesn't guide is guided wrong.

The first thing you need to do is to say the shahadah (There is no God worthy of worship but Allah and Muhammad is his last messenger.) Although the worship with your Creator is between you and Allah, I believe it's just a technicality that you need witnesses for this so perhaps you could look up an area mosque and go in there and talk to anyone in there. They would be honored to be your witnesses or guide you to an imam/scholar who could answer your questions. Then, start at your pace. Don't let people pressure you into anything. This was your decision and obviously God is guiding you right so ask Him to help you become better and to increase you in knowledge about Islam and what you are to do to become closer to Him. It may feel overwhelming at first because it is so new, but just find a pace at which you can grow which is comfortable for you. Islam is so beautiful in that the mountain believers must climb gets easier as you go. Meaning, the closer you get towards Allah, the easier it gets. Only at the beginning of the journey is it tough. Subhanallah (Praise be to Allah) that God makes things easier for you. This is different from everything else in life in which the further you go up, the harder it is to succeed. Islam is different. So, work at your pace, do as much as you want, and become and learn, for God loves those who seek knowledge.

The 5 basic requirements of Islam are:
1) Saying the shahadah.
2) Praying 5 times a day.
3) Giving alms/gifts to the poor.
4) Fasting during the month of Ramadan.
5) Performing the Hajj pilgrimage at least once in your life.

I think you should start with Prayer. Find someone (if you need help, let me know -- I can help you find a mosque in your area or I could do my best to teach you via email) and try to learn how to begin performing prayers. Then, work your way up. Have someone help you start reading the Qur'an. You can start learning Arabic in classes that offer it. People can also just start teaching you about the faith.

I will post some links that you could check out for answers.

http://www.convertstoislam.org/ (I haven't used this site, but I just found it.)

http://www.islamonline.net/English/index.shtml (Great site which I use all the time -- check out Ask the Scholar, Ask About Islam, etc. for answers to questions people have posted.)

http://www.islamtoday.net/english/default.cfm (Good site for articles.)

http://www.zaytuna.org/index.asp (My favorite website. Check out free videos, lectures, and other resources.)

Good luck. Email for questions.

I might be able to answer some of your questions though.....

1) No, you dont need to learn Arabic, but you have to learn that very little Arabic to be able to pray (in Arabic).
You can google it and you will probably get some answers.

2) To learn how to pray, just contact a muslim, even via email so they can help you. Its not hard at all.

3) Fasting is only obligatory on the month of Ramadhan, which is about 4 months from now. So you dont have to know that right now.

4) As for Hijab, just wear a scarf and dont wear tight clothes.
And dont consume any pork and alcohol.

If you need more help, email me. I will try to help.

Hi,

Coming form a strong Christian I must say the following.

If in fact Muhammed has revealed the Truth and the 1 and only path to eternal salvation, then by all means you are saving your life.

But if you are not promised salvation, you are surley risking your life. Of course I am not talking about the life here on earth. I am only refering to the life of our spirit and soul.

The islamic culture is in the view of man and worthy way of living.
According to the bible (both old and new testaments) the Quran does not or will not allow you to access salvation. There are promises that you recieve in the " Promise land" which is Islamic heaven, that contradict biblical teachings in all 3 holy books.

My advice to you would by put the gods to the test.

I believe it was in the book of Samuel, but I may be mistaken the prohpet of the Lord God and believers in other gods had a challenge. Which ever God is real, would burn the offering.
Well low and behold only Jehova showed victry.

I am not telling you to make an opffering and ecpect in to be inflamed.

Only God can show you His truth.
Pray this prayer.
God I know you are real. I love you. I am seraching for your truth. PLease God don't allow me to be mislead. I pray that through your Soverign Word, and by your spirit you will reveal all things unto me. PLease I beg of you show me which faith to follow Christiananity or Islam?
Thankyou Father for answering my prayers.

Now me being a Christian would end the prayer In Jesus name I pray.

You do what is right.

Now to doug doug,
You are jumping to conclusions that it was christians who insisted that our friend should go and shoot him self.

Please don't make accusations based on knowledge that you don't have

To all GOD BLESS AND JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY MESSIAH.
READ THE BIBLE

You always were a Muslim, it is our parents that raise us as Christians or Jews. We follow the religion of Abraham, who neither claimed to be Christian or Jewish, but did submit to the One God. Let me be the first to congratulate you on your reawakening. Make prayers for us. www.al-islam.org. Also, you can learn a lot about Islam from the Bible; in genesis God says, from the seed of Ishmael I will create a great nation, and from him I will give 12 princes. Prophet Muhammad was the only one to claim to be from prophet Ishmael, and he had 12 successors. Note, the Bible says false prophets will not be successful but in the not too far future, Islam will be the largest religion on the planet.

All you need to do is to declare the Testimony (Shahadatan). The Testimony is: ‘"I testify that there is no God but Allah, and Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah". ’Once you establish this pure belief in your heart, then you are a muslim just like us. Many Islamic foundations and mosques will be able to help you getting started learning about Islam... you should consult the a nearby mosque..

this teaches new converst how to pray, with pictures and so on:

as to the hijab:

a muslim woman must cover all of her body, except her face, hand and feet. she must wear loose clothings.

Islam is quite seductive as it is based on the same God as Judaism and Christianity, do you realize that you Will have to denounce Jesus as your Savior, to do this? I have studied all three religions. These are the facts of the case Ishmael the father of Islam- as it is counted in Abraham's descendants- was the son of the flesh- Isaac was the chosen the son of the promise. Now Islam IS blessed BUT it is for God's own purpose. Ishmael will not get along with anybody and everybodys hand will be against him it says in Gen. I don't remember where. To go from freedom in Christ to bondage in rules and regulations is quite a choice you are free to do it though. I would have to say that you have not educated yourself in the ways of Christ. But if not for the grace of God I would also chose either Islam or Judaism. A suitable link would be both of these. http://www.islam101.com/ and just be sure you know you will denounce Jesus who I guess has not been enough for you. http://www.jewsforjesus.org/publications/newsletter/2002_01/mosque Be sure to study carefully all sides of this issue "for lack of knowledge my people perish"
