I live in a town with LOTS of colleges, and when I was in college I had a nice apartment. Most of them are so gross and unkept that it shocks me. What is going on??

they're too busy partying to keep the place picked up.

Also, I think the landlords don't give a hoot because they're rental property and who wants to spend money on something that others aren't going to take care of.

I don't have a clue. My step-daughter was just like that. She still is. Only now she has a baby and it is really gross the way she doesn't clean at all and lets the baby crawl around. I am so scared he is going to get something. And you have to trust me when I say it is truly gross. I am not a clean freak.

I think that a lot of times, college students are having too much fun to worry about cleaning. Sometimes they have never been taught how to clean or how often things need to be cleaned.

"Rabbit" you are so right! There was only one answer when I went to answer. Sometimes I wonder if people will think I copied other answers because mine is the same as a bunch of others before mine! Great minds think alike!?!?

Not ALL college students live in filth. After all, you stated that when YOU were in college, your apartment was 'nice.' Anyway my apartment was always spotless, right down to the matching curtains and rug.

But then again, I have OCD :-D

I believe it is a mixture of different things. (Note: I am a college student as well as a home owner who rents to fellow college students)

1. Mommy always cleaned up after them, so they never learned

2. They are lazy

3. They are studying/having fun

4. They cannot afford appropriate cleaning materials

Because there are more importnat things in a college students life, like exams, sex and parties. Also some students arent used to being on their own and dont really know how to take care of themselves.

I just love these little time delays. There is no answer until you go to place an answer and suddenly there is a crowd of them. I'm glad I came back to see that Julia already answered it--the pigs among us don't just go to school.

They live like that because they don't care. They'e lazy and sloppy. My brother's apartment looks like a tornado hit it and it smells like old pizza and dirty socks.
And he lets his pet gecko run around and i'm sure it poops everywhere, it's so gross.

it amazes me too. it's kind of sad to see how certain people live these days, and it's not only the college students.
