Yes, Don Shaw said that, and I sent him an email correcting him.
Fact: No Catholic believes that the Pope is "God on earth." No Catholic who is in communion with Church teaching, anyway.
I strongly recommend that you take anything Mr. Shaw says regarding Catholicism with a huge grain of salt. The man has a clearly visible anti-Catholic bias, and he will say anything about Catholicism to make it look bad.
He will even sink to the level of misrepresenting Catholic beliefs -- "Catholics believe the Pope is God" is not the first time he's done this.
I used to think the man was just misinformed. But now I believe that he does it on purpose.

I grew up Catholic. I no longer believe in the religion, at least certain aspects of it. A lot of the traditions seem pointless to me. However, I have never in all of my years of church on Sunday and Catholic school every other day have heard any Catholic preist, nun, teacher, or member state that the pope is God on earth. He certainly did a lot of good things and change some wrong doing in the church but Catholics dont believe that. Maybe you heard some confused or misinformed Catholic memeber say that. But the church doesnt believe that. How about this question: why doesn't the church believe in condoms. I guess I could see why they dont believe in birth control, the churches traditions are old world. But come on. Some people, even married couples use condoms to protect from STDs or AIDs

+ Holy + The Bible states that anyone who possesses the Holy Spirit is holy. The Bible speaks of a holy man of God, holy ones, a holy people, a holy nation, and holy brothers. That is why Mary is blessed (holy). The angel Gabriel called her, "Full of grace" and, "The Lord is with you." + Holy Father + We have many fathers. We have: + Biological fathers + Step fathers + Foster fathers (Saint Joseph) + Godfathers + Spiritual fathers (ordained clergy: priests and bishops) . + Our most senior spiritual father, our Holy Father (the Pope) + God, our heavenly Father None of our other fathers take the place of God the Father in any way. With love in Christ.

Not God per se but he is in persona christi (in the person of Christ) he shows the light of god's presence to us Catholics and he should be a beacon to the whole world.

some of you might want to reread your catechism. what do you think it means when you must go to a MAN in order to be forgiven means, when your own bible tells you that only God can do that? Read and be Amazed.
