The young Marine is CORRECT!! Guadacanal was our first major confrontation with the Empire of Japan. After we took the island it gave us a piece of real estate to set up operations for Gen. McArthurs and Admiril Nimitz Island Hopping Campaign. The airfield at the canal was a key element for our bombers to launch missions on other islands. We owe our freedom to men like your grandfather. If he is still with you, do me a favor and give him a big hug from me! Hell from all of us I'd say! God Bless Him!

Very Respectfully,

RJ

Are you kidding? Guadalcanal and Midway were the turning points of the war. Your grandfather is a hero. If it wasnt for guys like him, we'd all be speaking Japanese right now. Believe it.

Yes, but I'm not sure why. I think it was one of the turning points in the war with the Japanese. i think Midway came after that and that was the battle that clinched Japans' defeat. (My brother is an expert at this stuff and could even tell you where to look,) Thank your grandfather for me.

Yes. The japanese disliked the battle of guadacanal greatly. when instructing his generals the emporor said make sure this (the battle) is not another guadalcanal.

All battles are important. History is based on struggle. If it weren't for that struggle, then something important at that time might not have happened. IDK what that is because I haven't really heard of that battle, but anyway, it was for a cause.
