Stupidly agreed to go on a pub-crawl(a pub crawl is when you go drinking from pub to pub until ...) The thing is I have never been drunk. How do I remain sober or partially sober during this drinkathon without losing face? What drinks to choose and avoid?

Thanks

Yikes! Well, that can be fun and you have the right idea BUT the danger lies in what happens when you get tipsy. You start to become less rational and see no reason to follow through on your plan to stay sober. With that in mind, here are some strategies I know of:

1. EAT before you go...a heavy meal that totally fills you up.

2. DON'T drink shots or hard liquor. Stick with (I know) light beer or the like. NO WINE. NO TEQUILA.

3. Drink water every other drink (non-carbonated). You will be visiting the rest room every stop after initially breaking the seal, but it's worth it.

4. Aw, hell, just do what you feel and enjoy the pub crawl...they are fun! BUT absolutely under no circumstance should you drive!

If you've never been drunk it's probably safe to assume your not much of a drinker. This will put you at a disadvantage.

Firstly, make sure you've had a good meal a few hours before going out - drinking on an empty stomach is a definate no-no.

Go for beer rather than spirits, drop chasers into your beer to dilute the strength / regulate your alcohol intake and take it easy.

If your not too queasy then I can recommend strategic trip to the lav to throw up. Get the beer out before you absorb the alcohol! Just remember to clean up after and have some handy mints.

Alternatively, announce your on antibiotics so you can't drink but avoid any backlash by offering to drive everyone around / home.

Good luck.

Stick to beers low in alcohol content (session beers) NOT non-alcoholic they're a waste of money (plus they'll make you ill) and you may as well drink lemonade.
DON'T! drink spirits.
NEVER drink on an empty stomach.
You can always tell them you think you may have an ulcer and can't drink certain things.
The most I've ever drunk in a session is 23 pints and never got out of my tree. But I'm experienced.
Going on pub crawls is never a good idea.
But enjoy yourself.

first you dont stay sober you only think you do! second it can be very dangerous !! but if you have to save face make sure you have a full stomach before you start drinking, stick to one type of drink with a low alcholic strength not shorts and try to alternate with water every 3rd round this will help stop you dehydrating
but to be honest with you dont do it i've seen too many people make themselves very ill and in 2 cases loose their lives , think about it !

Volunteer to be the designated driver. That way no one will pressure you into drinking anything because they will know you have to be sober to drive them all home.

A lot of good advice above ... also it's said that drinking a pint of milk before you go out helps.

Well obviously, what ever has less alcohol in it...drink some water too, and make sure you have lots of food in your stomach so less alcohol gets into your blood stream!

HAVE FUN!
