Honey, if you're only twelve you should go to your parents, let them take a good look at this site, and then decide if you should even be on here. I, personally think this is not a site for a twelve year old. Right now, just find a good bible study in your hometown, and ask questions there. When you're older and wiser you're always welcome back for the neverending debates. Love from Jesus

There used to be a somewhat united Church until a guy named Martin Luther (not the Jr. from the U.S.) decided that the Catholic Church was too much about MONEY and POWER (see Pope) instead of Christian values. So he formed a splinter group which developed into the Protestant Church. There're many good books out there. Try to read a history book instead one on religion (which could be biased). This is a question of history and not belief.

There are many differences now. The Protestant church doesn't have an infallible head (the Pope can't be wrong regarding religious questions according to the Catholic church). The Protestants see the holy communion as a symbolic act whereas the Catholics believe that they're drinking Christ's blood.....

They are actually more alike then they are different. Catholics are the older of the two divisions. Catholics have a living spiritual leader called a Pope and he lives in Rome. The Protestant church is not under the Popes authority. Most Protestants churches broke from the Catholic church for various reasons, but at the time they broke away there were alot of things wrong about the Catholic church (especially to those who started the Protestant movement). This is not true of the Catholic church today.

Protestant services tend to be less structured then the Catholics services. Generally, Catholics believe in praying to Saints (special people who died in the faith) and most Protestants do not.

Catholics believe that the bread and wine used in communion becomes the Flesh and Blood of Christ when they partake of Communion, Protestants see the bread and wine as only symbols.

Both Churches read from the same Bible, Some catholic churches (I think) have some different versions of the bible. That have parts that are added to the Bible.

We both believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We both believe that we can get to heaven only by a faith in Jesus. And we both believe that the Bible is divinely inspired.

Again there are many things that separate the two churches, but we are very similar compaired to Islam or Hindu beliefs.

The difference is a guy called Martin Luther and god knows how many killed in senseless wars -- which you will learn all about in your high school history classes. Until then you needn't worry about it.

Catholics offer prayers to Jesus' mother, Mary. That's a big difference!
