My sisters old Siamese cat Sabrina would reach up and try to touch the door knob too, to try to open the door! And one of my cats knows how to open the cabinets in the house, but he don't always know how to get back out of the cupboard if the door shuts behind him, My other cat will stand on her hind legs and push her weight on the door with her paws to open a door if its open a crack, I'magine my surprise in the middle of the night and Im in the bathroom in the dim light and the door suddenly comes swinging open quickly!!

I've seen videos of cats that jump onto the door handle and press it down to open the door. They are smart creatures. Change the handle to a knob, I don't think your cat will be able to deal with that, tho I'm darn sure he'll try.

You said it. Smart cat! Some of them really are. He may have figured out the door nob. (Probably jumping up and grabing at it with his paw until it gives.) Also, if left even SLIGHTLY ajar many cats do an EXCELLENT job of getting their paws and claws latched onto the door and pulling it open

Our cat will lay down and fiddle with the door until it opens. If the door is fully closed he can't do it. If it's not completely closed he'll play with the bottom until it opens more.

Depends on what doors you had; my Dad had a cat who came in & out - just imagine, in Germany, in the middle of the winter... and the cat forgets to close the door!

my cat does it all the time and i never catch her either, she just seems to somehow use her paws and open it! cats are smart, and they out smart us all of the time! with me i am going to put the safety ties on the cubbords and stuff , the ones you put on for kids so that she will stay out of the cubbors and stuff like that.

My cat does that and she gets her hand under the door and pulls the oppisite way. Maybe you need a lock.

my cat opens the door too! well, she sticks her paw under the door, but my door opens when you push it, so its not that hard, even for a cat
