a traditional shirley temple - like the one you will get in the bar is as follows.
7-Up over Sprite in a glass. Drop in grenadine (non-alcoholic pomegranite flavored syrup - available at groceries or the liquor store) and garnish with a maraschino cherry. you only need about two tablespoons of grenadine - too much grenadine is very bitter.
you can also substitute the syrup from the maraschino cherries for the grenadine and it's very similarly flavored.
