1 cup long grain rice
2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon butter (optional)
In a saucepan with a good fitting lid bring water, salt and butter if desired to a boil.
Add rice and stir.
Cover and reduce heat to medium low. You will know that your temperature is correct if a little steam is visible leaking from the lid. Alot of steam means your heat is too high.
Cook for 20 minutes.
DO NOT LIFT LID!
The steam that is trapped inside the pan is what allows the rice to cook properly.
Remove from heat and fluff with fork.
Serve!
Makes 4 1/2 cup servings

For two cups of rice just do the following:
1. A little bit of oil, use your judgement. I would say use about the size of a large serving spoon.
2. Add salt, this is all on taste.
3. Add two cups of rice.
4. Pour enough water to cover the top of the rice.
5. Put the flame on high and let cook until there is almost no water left.
6. Lower the flame (real low) and cover.
7. Let the rice cook for about 15 minutes then stir.
8. After about 10 min. taste, it should be soft but not mushy and not crunchy.
Hope this helps.

Two cups water to one cup rice. Multiply up if serving a larger crowd. (4 to 2) Bring water up to a boil. Toss in a little salt, and stir in rice. Use a pot with a tight fitting lid, because u will need to cover it. It may boil out a little while u are cooking, but I just slide the lid to the side a little bit to keep it from boiling onto the eye. Cook for 15 min. Take off eye and let sit for 5 mins when done. Fluff with fork, add butter or pepper if u eat it that way, and serve!! ENJOY!!!!

You put two cups of water for each cup of rice. First put the water in the pan with a teaspoon or so of salt and a tablespoon or so of butter. Bring it to a boil. Then add the rice, give it a stir, cover the pan, and turn the heat to low. Leave it there and don't open the lid. In 20 minutes it is done.

1 cup white rice (i cook on gas stove)
1 3/4 cup water
salt-pepper to taste if wanted
2 tblspns butter or margarine
mix in saucepan on high heat & bring to boil (stir so wont stick)
when comes to boil turn light down as low as it will go and put lid on pan. set timer for 18 minutes.
when timer goes off DO NOT remove lid from rice. just turn it off.
let it sit for a few minutes (5-10). Then remove the lid and with a fork fluff the rice from the side of the pot toward the middle.
and there is your perfect white rice. pepper will make it look darker.

all rice is different in its preparation... so to help you with exactness is inconceiveable... however if you simply make the water a little above the rice it should be fine... also most rice is generally 2 cups water and 1 cup rice....
preparation:
boil water first-
then add rice
switch heat to low or meduim low....
add top to pan
cook 10-15 minutes..
make sure texture is desireable when complete and let stand for about 5 minutes before serving...

To make white rice NOT from the little packets, you really need an electric rice cooker. add 3 cups of rice, then fill the pot with water up to your first joint (easy way to do measurements cuz you don't need to be exact) then put the pot in the cooker and press the power button!

Ask an Indian!
Failproof method is a rice cooker, it's a no brainer.
Perfect rice: 2 to 1 ratio (2 cups water for every 1 cup of rice)
Softer rice, add an extra 1/4 to 1/2 c of water.
Firmer rice, add a liitle less water
*********************************************************
The biggest mistake is over washing the rice, wash it 2 times only. Anymore, you are washing off the polish & this will
result in a gummy sticky result no matter how much water you add. Dont wash it until it runs clears, twice is plenty!

My box of rice at home says equal parts water and rice. I am guessing that some are different because I see that some people said 2 parts water to one part rice. So I don't know.
If you want to add a little flavor...try adding a little chicken bouillon to your boiling water. It gives the rice such a good flavor!!
