we moved in about a year ago and i just LOATHE the nasty off-white/pale yellowish colors the default newly built homes with.

i'm playing off these gorgeous russet rose sheets and trying natural green walls.

i'm just looking for suggestions and a few tips to help me out,
i have no clue where to even start!

5) i also very unhappy with this room because it looks cliche and generic. how can i balance my adolescent accessories with a more mature, cleaned up feel?
(ie. organizing posters, framing pinned pictures, using a bulletin board, etc.)

Well, for a room not to feel generic, you've got to insert some of you. Make sure photos of you, family and friends are displayed prominently. Buy accessories that represent your interests, hobbies and experiences.

Next, display creatively--if you're into music, display the instruments as if they are pieces of art. Blend old with new (establish some common element, like color, to tie them together). Put something in a surprising place (like mounting an antique on a wall).

Some basics: don't hang accessories on the wall too high--keep the center at eye level; recognize the beauty of symmetry and assymmetry; make sure each group has some unifying element ,(color, frame, shape, etc.).

You'll have great fun, and your space won't end up looking like the JCPenney catalog, either!

See Number 4. After answering the other four questions, this one sort of negates everything else. If you simply MUST have a poster on the wall, at least hang on the back of the door out of view from your by now gorgeous room! As for the pinned pictures, even inexpensive frames matted in colors taken from the decor will make a statement on a gallery wall. Instead of assorted snapshots, go to walmart or somewhere they have a computer and crop, enlarge and create unique black and white photographs in various sizes. Since roses are featured in your plans, why not cover a bulletin board with a remnant of satin. You can then criss cross ribbon in a different color creating a cutomized bulletin board that will blend with your new room. Good luck.

mimma has a great idea!

Also, don't forget that it's okay to be somewhere between adolescent and mature...Most of us are, at some point!

I like the idea of framing your posters...This turns them into "art", instead of just something you stick push-pins thru. It can also provide a united image for all of your posters, if you can get the same frames for all of the above...Consider getting mats for all of them, if they're not all the same size.

For smaller pics, and/or bulletin board type stuff, try a "memory board"...I have seen them on sale at Target, but they're also easy to make. You can use an existing bulletin board, or just a piece of wood that's the appropriate size. Cover it first with batting, then with fabric (that coordinates with your room, of course), using a staple gun on the backside of the wood to hold it all together. Then, add ribbons on the diagonal (again, stapling on the back of the wood), so that they make x-patterns with each other. You can pin things into the fabric, or stick them underneath the ribbons to hold them in place.

Find an article that you love as far as color goes (you mention sheets?) like a fabric, or a piece of art or even a painted plate. Choose 3 colors from the palette and make one (the most neutral) you base color on the wall and use the other two for trim or decorative pillows and such. You can also color-block a wall this way. You're main color on 3 sides and a really warm color on the 4th to make it "you"! Finish off with velvet drapes/panels pulled to the side with matchstick or bamboo shades.

ok, i had the sam eproblem, but don't worry its easily remedied. i love books and read a lot so i have some nice, light wood book shalves (floor to ceiling) about 80 cm wide and about one meter from each other. between them i have put the framed or lemonated posters that i love (some archaic ones and some that are just great memories). pu in a cool looking sofa (yellow, beige, green with a "futuristic") pattern and a bulletin board just above it, and put your postcards, photos etc on it 8arrange it well). also, have at least one big wardrobe and put the rest of stuff on top of it or on it and on some other "small" places. if you can squeze it in, put in a small coffee table and put some candles or figurines on it. also, a desk will look nice in such a room. hope i helped

Well, looks like you have already started with the sheets. If you have the time check out HGTV.com or BHG.com and you will find lots of ideas to decorate your home. Before you hang your pictures, try arranging them on the floor first, this will give you a chance to experiment with different placements. I also like to use baskets to keep magazines and little knick knacks in. Decorative baskets are good because it keeps everything from being scattered.

no green walls. russet rose would go with fall like colors. oranges and browns. try thrift stores for old picture frames. make b&w copies of your favorite pictures and frame them. get a poster sized cork board for the back of the door, if you NEED the bulliten board. you could even make it so it flips over to a cool print.
