I have dark brown hair naturally, that has been lightened to a dirty blonde-light brown colour. My roots have grown in dark brown. I desperately would like to be the shade of medium neutral blonde (a very pretty blonde that's not too golden or white) that I was when I was younger, but FIVE salons over the past four years so far have only been able to take my hair to a reddish light brown (despite my having brought in photographs of very, very blonde women). The only reason my hair has any blonde in it at all now is because of the highlights I have gotten -- and they have turned out beautifully blonde. Please help -- I know girls with black and ethnic hair who are beautiful shades of blonde, yet mine seems stuck in a perpetual terrible colour. I have considered finding a way to do it at home with salon-grade products, but I have no one I trust to do my hair for me. What can I do when even the salons don't do the job correctly?

It sounds like they are trying to lighten you in a single process. To get dark hair to a non reddish blonde you need to have your hair double processed. The dark has to be lifted out to a gold stage and then toned to a natural color. Any good salon should be able to do that for you.

Wow you want to be high maintance or what? Well going all blonde you will have to go to a salon every 3 to 4 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows. Trust me its not cheap either! Sounds like your hair pulls red so if your gonna do it yourself you better get a dye with an ash tone in it. Otherwise shop around for a higher end salon and pay the big bucks girl. Good luck!

you need to go to a really nice salon with younger looking women older women wont do what you ask them to do they just will do what they think looks best. it should cost 100-150 to get ur hair colored and also make sure u pick ur color from a pamphelet they have at the salon

First thing's first.Okay never dye your hair real dark you know.Only dye it two shades darker than your natural hair color or else it looks artificial. And stop wanting to be blond!Your natural beauty is what is more pretty (ok now not in all cases.)

Your hair may be genetically programmed to only go to that shade, much like it may only grow to a certain length. I personally would not do it myself at home, but go to a repuatble salon and get a consulation - if the stylist is worth their scissors, they will examine your hair and give you an honest assessement of what color you can reasonably go to.

first of all, dark brown hair already has a naturally red highlights...What I can recommend is a cocktail shampoo and when you reach the shade you want, rinse the hair thoroughly and then put your toner to use the natural blond level 8 ....
