Somebody esle on here figured it out by calories a while back.. The upshot was, by conventional methods, it will take you a while.

Unconventional methods (the different surgeries and radical diets) contain varying degrees of risk, and should be implemented and monitored by a doctor.

Avoidance of sugar will help you lose weight, almost guaranteed. The other poster correctly identified soda as the worst offender. Foods that are heavy in carbohydrates are also sugary. You could try going to the doc's and having them give you a typical diabetic" diet plan, which will serve you well.

I use to play a a bit of golf, but the slow walking didn't help. A stair stepper or running machine would serve you well - if you use it almost every day faithfully. I found that somewhat boring and switched to Tae Kwon Do (with judo/hapkido). After 20 minutes of kicking back and forth, your heart will DEFINITELY be beating faster. I suppose kickboxing or similar would be just as good (but TKD and the like can also possibly save your life). Just don't ry to do too much too soon. Ease into it.

Someone I love was very depressed with her life situation. She went to stay with relatives in Maine for a few months and so far (since February) has lost 30 lbs. Depression and eating comfort food is like a silent assassin. Perhaps a change of routine or scenery would help as well.

Best of luck!!

Not sure exactly how long...it depends on how dedicated you are to getting fit. Also, since it's very unhealthy to drop a lot of weight fast, make sure you take your time and don't do anything drastic! If you really make an effort to change your diet and exercise, you should have noticeable results by the end of summer...but remember, when you exercise, you build muscle which weighs more than fat. So pounds may not be the best meter of you getting fit...it's more how you feel and how your clothing fits!

Change you diet to a healthy one
NO MORE SODA
Limit all other caffine
Cut out salt as much as possible
Drink lots and lots and lots of water
30 Min of cardio per day
Pilates and Yoga
Good, natural vitamins
It will work if you stick with it.

You want to lose almost half your body this summer without going to a gym? Don't they have AC in the gym?
I saw these awesome pills in a magazine that say you can lose 30 pounds in thirty days. There's only 90 days or so in the summer. So taking the magic diet pills would take about 4 months. However my ex-wife tried them and gained about 30 pounds in the first month.
If avoiding the gym doesn't work and the magic pills are a fraud then you'll just have to eat a lot less than you do now.

Look up the South Beach Diet. A typical diet includes eating 3 meals and 2 snacks daily with portion control. Not to mention limiting the amount of sugars and fats will help you lose weight as well

In 2004 I weighed 305 pounds. I went on the diet described above and coupled that with a excersise program where I was walking between 3 to 4 miles a day, and today I weigh 242 pounds. About 65 pound drop in weight. I have reached plateau which may also happen to you.

If you do reach a plateau, keep on the diet for about 2 months. You may begin to lose again. Aftef that time A hospital dietician may be needed.

However, before you start any diet and excersize program I advocate seeing your doctor to find out what risks there maybe to your body.

The surgeries are terrific for losing large amount of weight in a short period if time. However remember this, they are risks with surgery including death.

2 lbs/ week is safe.
The best advice is to work out hard: running, swimming, etc.
This increases your metabolism so that you are always burining more calories, even at rest.
I like to start with a 2 week fruit diet (no bananas) which will drop weight fast
