Cats are really social animals - studies show this, and studies are now showing that animals in general have similar emotions (less complex than ours) to humans. Cats REALLY respond to being talked to. I used to play hide and go seek with one of mine, and every time I popped my head around the corner my cat would too and she'd meow at me - EVERY time. The feel loved and appreciated when you talk to them and share yourself. I had one cat that needed A LOT of attention - she was really insecure - but didn't want to be cuddled all the time - she needed her space - when I started talking to her acroos the room or singing to her - she totally knew it - and it made such a difference. Plus - it's therapeutic for us too. Other studies show that people's blood pressure goes down when a cat just walks into a room. Keep talking - and listen intuitively by the sound of their meow, their eyes, their body language - what they're trying to tell you. Your relationship with your cat will blossom - and your cat will open up to you in ways you just don't see in other homes where animals aren't respected in this way. I had two cats for 17 years and they were like my family. We had the most amazing connection. Don't you ever let anyone ever tell you that you're nuts - if anything you're really on the ball. Animals are amazing creatures and have lots to teach us - many people miss the boat because they have this idea that somehow because we're human we're better than everything else on the planet. We're all here together ... and I believe we are all intelligent in our own ways.

Absolutely! I have 14 dogs, 5 cats, a turtle, and a horse and I talk to all them. I have a normal life as well, kids, fiance, school, job, etc. There is just somethng calming about talking to pets, they don't talk back and they offer you unconditional love.
I also work at a vet clinic and I talk to all of the critters that come in. Some people may think that I'm weird, but I enjoy the company of animals.

I do. My husband teases me not in a mean way. I will be in the living room talking to the cats and he giggles and says they are not listening to you. And then around the corner comes Anthony our male tabby and sits and looks at me. He says well look at that he does listen. I talk to my cats all the time and they actually listen of course when they want to or it's convenient for them. When I'm alone before my husband gets home that is all I do is chat with the cats. Ask them if they want treats? Do you want to go outside? If I ask about treats they go to the kitchen and if I ask about going outside if they want to they will go to the door. I know some people think I'm crazy, but oh well they are my babies.

Yes. It's very normal and much more socially accepted than talking to yourself!
I talk to my three cats all the time.

I don't have cats, but I talk to my dogs all the time. Perfectly normal if you love your pets. If they start talking back, then there is a problem.

ABSOLUTELY! You sound like a good pet "owner" and a good friend to your cats. Many people seem to forget that cats (dogs, horses, whatever) are alive, posess a full range of emotions and feelings and in their own way offer us love and friendship. It's only natural to interact with them and feel deep affection for them. As I used to say of one cat I was especially close to: He is my cat and I am his person.

Yes, I have two female cats that I enjoy talking too. The best part about it is that you can vent without having to worry about your reputation. (As long as you do it in private!)
Best of Luck

I talk to my pets also. I used to have Betta(2001-2003)(a.k.a. simese fighter fish) He'd recognize me by the way I tapped on the glass. I also had a female Beagle mix (1993-2004) I would talk to her sometimes. Now my folks currently have a pug puppy, he sleeps in my room and I do spend time talking and playing with him. I imagine anyone who owns a pet talks to them, in most cases pets are the only company their owners have at certain times.

ME TOO!!! I thought I was the only one. When I get mad or upset my cat she doesn't care what I say to her she is just always there to talk to. I love my cat so I think it is ok to talk to your pets.
