Science is limited to the physical. Your soul is eternal. The Bible deals with what is eternal where science cannot venture. The physical realm will pass away, and science will pass away with it. What you want to do is latch onto that which will last forever, and that is the Word of God.
Matthew 24:35
Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away."
However, with a little study and reference, you can find proof that God DOES exist. My writing at the link below shows how this is possible.

*Emma* - God can be known personally. THAT is the essence of the Gospel. Science will not help you in that venture. God is a Spirit, and those who wish to know Him must seek Him in spirit and in truth. Read the above link to start your own quest.

You're right. There is no real proof God exists beyond man-made writings. But we also know that there are things that exist but can't be proved by actually studying it up close like black holes and worm holes and planets outside our solar system.
We are learning new things all the time about who we are and where we came from. But the one question that truly can't ever be answered with certainty is "is there a God?".The only answer that even any skeptic must conclude is "if there isn't a God then why is existence here and what gave life or what caused the Big Bang or what motivated the creation of the universe?"....

If the claim of the existence of God involves a testable hypotheses, then you can disprove it.
For example you can disprove that creation happened exactly they way that the Bible said it did. The Bible said that God created the stars on the fourth day in a young (~6000 year old) universe.
Science has disproven this theory. When you look up at the sky many of the stars you see are more than one million or in some cases one billion years old. If they were created around 6,000 years ago as the bible says, then the light would not have reached us and we would not be able to see them. The fact that you can see a star that's one million light years away is concrete, irrefutable, sceintific proof that the stars were not created in the way that the bible
We now have documented proof of stars being formed right now, as caputred by telescopes. Obviously if they are forming on thier own right now, this disproves that God created them all on the 4th day.
So the answer to your question is yes, if the existence of God is predicated on some testable hypotheses then you can disprove it with science, just as you can disprove that the stars and sun revolve around the Earth.

As an atheist, I don't care if there is a god or not. I do know for a fact that the Christian bible is nonsense, so therefore, I have no fear whatsoever that I will be going to hell because I don't believe what that silly book says.
In which case, if there is a god, he hasn't given me any rules about believing or not believing in him, so why should I care? And to extend that thought, why should I even believe he exists? I get no comfort from believing or not believing. So I will go with what I know.
I know what science tells us, and I learn more every day. And I have philosophies of my own, and wisdom from others that I have met or heard from in my life. I don't feel God, and I see no reason why I would need to. (Although I can easily "feel" God if I want to imagine him, anytime I want to. This can be done quite easily. I learned this years ago, after "feeling his presence" through most of my formative years)

I would say what you feel in your heart and soul should be enough to prove for yourself (and no one else) the proof of whether or not God exists. There is no physical evidence that Science would be willing to give to Creationism. So...You have to make up your own mind. No one can do that for you.

Science versus the Bible, a debate that lasts forever, to those that believe the Bible only dates about 6000 or so years. This is the one thing that people use to try and disprove the Bible and the existence of God. If you read the Bible a bit more closely in Genesis, you find that the Bible does NOT date itself. If you believe there was only one flood, yes, 6000 years is about right; however, there were two floods. Read in the Old Testament and know that ever before God created Adam and Eve, Lucifer had ruled a kingdom (Earth). This was a thriving kingdom with cities and such that had grown over time. Lucifer was appointed to reign over this kingdom, then he challenged God. He ascended to Heaven with 1/3 of the angels and was defeated. The Bible never tells us how long a period of time this was.
The Bible tells us Genesis 1:2 tells us that the earth was without form and void. It also tells us God does not create something imperfect, so how could the earth be without form and void? Because, after the fall of Satan, God flooded the earth. The second part of Genesis 1:2 tells us God moved across the face of the waters, this was the beginning of the 7 days of creation we refer to; however, the first day was not the creation of the heavens and the earth as many believe, but rather in Genesis 1:5 which says, "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." I won't get too in depth on that part anymore, but I also have geological proof of this as well.
I tell you this to marry together science and the Bible to take exactly what people are trying to use against the Bible, and use it against them! Yes, carbon dating and space exploration shows that the earth is billions of years old. Yes, science says they found signs of the big bang theory. But the Bible is truly not dated to 6000 years, and who says that God did not use a "big-bang" to create the heavens and earth? No-one knows HOW he did it, just that he did. He may very well have done the big-bang and let things roll out in his plan taking time (which time to him is nothing as we see it, a million years is but a second). I can't argue the big-bang, but I can argue it happening without God's intervention.
Chance cannot have it that the exact two planets/stars/masses could have met up at just the right time, hit just the right way, with all the necessary chemical make-up to do the following:
Create a solar system in which could support life as we know it;
create one planet out of them all that rotated perfectly in a 24 hour interval, on the right axis, forming areas of drinkable water and inhabitable land, and proper climate.
The most complex molecular structure and physical make-up (man) that can speak, use his brain in a way other than just survival and self gratification, etc, etc.
Boy, the list just keeps going and going. It is just impossible for God NOT to exist, but if he made it to where it was as easy to comprehend as 1+1=2, then there would be no "faith " involved. Everything in life can't be explained away or proven by our now too smart for their own good scientists. It was not meant to be, no matter how brilliant we decide to pump ourselves up to be.
Follow-up to sadistdave:
With a screen name like that, it's no wonder you took the stand you did. Don't take facts and twist them to meet your needs. Hitler was born into a Catholic family, but at a very early age rejected it and all views of Christianity. That is why he formed Nazism. Next, all Christians, true ones, did not support the crusades and inquisitions due to other underlying tones. In many cases, people flew the flag of christianity to fight wars and do other things only to try and make them seem what they were doing was right. NOT that God had instructed them to do so. This is much different than cases in the Bible that He had done so, but did so with reason do to the evil nature of the people He had those such as the Israelites go to battle with. Get it right the first time, and don't convolute it.

I can tell you right now the big bang didn’t happen. One of the laws of physics that proves this is angular momentum. If all the matter in the universe was packed into this little micro-dot in space, and it spun real fast until it exploded and everything came out of it. Everything should still be spinning in the same direction. There are 2 maybe 3 planets in our solar system spinning in the wrong direction. Many of the known moons spin backwards too. I recommend checking out http://www.drdino.com/downloads.php if you want proof of a creator.

Hitler was a Roman Catholic. If you want proof that God does not exist, go to Germany and visit Sobibor or Dachau. Hitler, a servant of God, killed millions of servants of God. If indeed God does exist, he is a vile and contemptuous being not worth of worship.
Read up on the Inquisition and the Crusades.
Check into the millions of people killed by Christians for being werewolves and witches.
Read your Bible and add up the millions of people supposedly killed with Gods help.
You believe in God, but do you really know what that means? Most people tend to be pretty decent until they feel the "spirit of the Lord." If God is in your heart, you have my sympathy.

read "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown...it's a fictional piece of work, obviously, but it is SO interesting. when i read your question, it makes me think that you asked it because you may have read this book. if you haven't, you DEFINITELY should.
it talks about how as science progresses, rather than disproving there is a God, it actually begins to prove there IS a God.
also, from the book comes one of my favorite passages:
"Do you believe in God, Mr. Langdon?"
"I want to believe."
"So why don’t you?"
"Well, it’s not that easy. Having faith requires leaps of faith, cerebral acceptance of miracles—immaculate conceptions and divine interventions. And then there are the codes of conduct. The Bible, the Koran, Buddhist scripture...they all carry similar requirements and similar penalties. They claim that if I don’t live by a specific code, I will go to hell. I can’t imagine a God who would rule that way."
"Mr. Langdon, I did not ask if you believe what man says about God. I asked if you believe in God. There is a difference. Holy scripture is stories...legend and history of man’s quest to understand his own need for meaning. I am not asking you to pass judgement on literature. I am asking if you believe in God. When you lie out under the stars, do you sense the divine? Do you feel in your gut that you are staring up at the work of God’s hand?"

No science cannot prove Gods existence. You feel him in your heart and soul so he is real to you. Some others do not feel him so to them he is not real. Since science cannot prove it one way or another all we have to go on is are feelings.
