Yes I do, but I'm amazed at how many people can't use an apostrophe correctly. I once watched a sign writer painting "Ladie's Hairdresser". I didn't have the heart to tell him he'd cocked up!

It's is the contraction for "it is." Its is a possessive pronoun like his or hers. "It's a boy" is correct because it's is a contraction for it is. Whereas "The little dog wags its tail." is correct as this is the form the possessive pronoun takes.

OK That is not true. I just said it because it is easy. Actually its is a convention -- everyone just agreed that its made more sense that it's for the form of the possessive pronoun. DUH!

It's backward from the way you'd expect it to be in a lot of cases.

The possessive is "its" and the contraction is "it's."

Example: "Look at that dog! It's scratching its head!"

Its is the possessive form.
Example: The book was great, and its plot was exciting.
It's is the contraction form (it is).
Example: This book is great and it's exciting.

Yes, I do, but a lot of people on here don't!

It's = It has, it is

Its = The cat had its ball to play with.

Yes, "it's" is ONLY short for "it is". The possessive does not have an apostrophe.
