Before you get started place a clear glass in the freezer so it gets frosty when you take it out.
In a blender put your favorite chocolate ice cream. Stay away from the kinds with chunks of chocolate in them. Add milk. Make sure the milk level is about two inches from the top of the ice cream. Blend. Blend until the shake swirls in the blender. (you'll get a dimple in the middle). Take the glass out of the freezer and take a bottle of chocolate sauce. Tilt the glass and drag the chocolate syrup in the glass while spinning it. This will make the shake pretty. Carefully pour in the chocolate shake. Top with Whipped Cream and a Cherry (optional). If you like strawberry and not chocolate I recommend fresh strawberries (frozen works too) Blue Bunny strawberry Ice cream, milk. Follow the same blending instructions above and then top with whipped cream and a strawberry. These are a great way to cool off in the summer. Goes for any fruit! Just match the ice cream.

Use chocolate fudge swirl icecream. Instead of plain old milk try using some light whipping cream or half and half. Freeze your glass first. Use Hersheys Syrup to coat the inside of the glass as your twisting the glass to form a design on the inside. Put the cream into the blender add icecream and try just a hint of almond extract(if you like a slight nutty flavor with out trying to actually suck up the nuts through that straw). Or if you like mint try mint extract for a chocolate mint flavor or a little of both. You'll be amazed at how much creamier it is than plain milk. Experiment with adding different extacts to suit your mood. Remember a little goes a long way when it comes to extracts. Try a bit then taste. Add a bit of whip cream and top with a few nuts and a cherry or sliced strawberry! Remember to go easy with the extract. You can always add more but you can't take it out. ENJOY!!!

1 cup chocolate ice cream or soy ice cream
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1/2 cup chocolate milk or chocolate soy milk
or
2 cups milk
1/8 cup baking cocoa powder (use a little more or less, depending on your taste) or 1/4-1/2 cup powdered chocolate milk mix (Nestles Quick, Ovaltine, etc)
1/2 cup sugar (or to taste)
1/8 cup non-dairy powdered coffee creamer
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 full size ice cubes (from ice cube tray, if using small ice cubes, double)
--Add some coffee or 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder to make a "Mocha" flavor.
--Omit the chocolate and powdered coffee creamer altogether to make vanilla.
--With a vanilla base, add any kind of berries-- or replace the milk with 1-1/2 cups orange juice & 1/2 cup water to make the best orange julius just like you get in the mall!

No one has answered about the malt yet. I made shakes and malts when I was a waitress in my grandmother's cafe way back when! Use a good rich chocolate ice cream,a little milk, and add a teaspoon of malt and blend it well. Or use Ovalteam if you can't find malt. I also recommend using chocolate malted balls(balls of candy usually bought in a milk carton type container) if you can't get malt.Use your imagination when you can't find an ingredient!

Friendly's or Edy's Chocolate Ice Cream a little milk (skim, whole, 2% or 1% milk whatever your preference). Blend it, if it too thick add more milk. You can add hershey chocolate syrup if you are real chocolate lover as I am.
Good Luck!
