The boy's name Dick is pronounced dik. It is of English origin. A rhyming nickname from medieval times. Richard (Old German) "dominant ruler", was shortened to Rick, then rhymed to Dick, and variants like Dickson and Dix (which is also the French word meaning "ten") followed. Figure skater Dick Button.

Dick has 3 variant forms: Dickson, Dix and Dixon.

So most of the Dick you find are one of the 3 mentioned above and do not "point" to the male genetalia ..And yes because people have started making that association has seen the "flopping" of Dick as a virile name. ..(all puns intented)

because to some people dick is another name for a male's private part.and to name someone dick would be embarrasing.imargine when that child grows up and goes to school and the other children starts teasing him,he would be very angry with his parents for naming him dick.long ago the name dick did'nt matter.it was just a name.but in today's society, everything has a meaning to people even DICK.

I have no idea why parents don't name their sons Dick anymore, you could ask my friend Penis, his father Mr. Johnson or his mother Mrs. Eva Gina

Whatever floats one's boat......a name for any reason is personal preference of the givers.....a person should consider the implications of a given name to the esteem placed on the name for the future of the child....like naming a boy: Lesley, Jamie....(feminine sounding names)
