The key ingredients to use in smoothies are milk, yogurt, juice, fruit, veggies (if you want to try something less sweet) and possibly ice.
You can make your own smoothie catering to your own specific tastes simply by adding a few of these ingredients in a blender. You can vary the amount of any one ingredient to make your smoothie more creamy, less creamy and to achieve your desired thickness.
Lately I've found a good way to make a smoothie type drink without using yogurt, for less calories and less fat. What I do is take
Some fruit (ie: banana & about 5 strawberries)
1/2 cup to a full cup liquid (milk and or juice)
and 6 ice cubes.
I blend that until it's smoothe and its really good.
Also, instead of the fruit I will add a couple tablespoons of Nescafe Ice Java syrup to a cup of milk with 6 ice cubes. This makes a yummy Iced Cappuccino.
Basically what I'm saying is play around with ingredients and you will have endless creative concoctions. :)

I love smoothies, because you can make them with anything you like. Here’s a basic smoothie recipe which you can flavor with 2 to 3 handfuls of any chosen fruit. Or flavor it using 1 of the 3 fantastic combinations given below.
1 banana
2 to 3 large handfuls of chosen fruit
Approximately 1 pint glass ice
1/2 pint heavy cream
Place the banana and your chosen fruit into a blender and whiz for 30 seconds. Add the ice cream. Place the lid back on tightly and pulse the blender a couple of times on and off to break up the larger pieces of ice, before whizzing up to a semi-slushy milkshake consistency.
If you haven't got a blender, you can do as I have been known to do -- place the ice into a clean tea towel and bash the hell out of it with a rolling pin before stirring in the mashed fruit and the cream. It's good, but not quite as good. The 3 smoothies below can be made by following this basic recipe, using the listed ingredients as your chosen fruit.
Blackberry and Pineapple Smoothie:
2 handfuls blackberries
1 handful peeled and chopped fresh pineapple
Banana and Honey Smoothie:
1 banana
2 tablespoons honey
2 heaping tablespoons peanut butter
Raspberry and Strawberry Smoothie:
1 handful raspberries
2 handfuls strawberries
good luck

I make this smoothie several times a week:
Juice (any kind you like)
1 small container yogurt(I prefer goat yogurt)
1 banana, orange or tangelo, fresh strawberries, blueberries
Frozen strawberries, blueberries
I put about 1/4-1/2 cup of juice in, the yogurt, banana and orange. Blend. Put in fresh berries, blend. Put in frozen a few at a time until it is as thick as you like.
I sometimes add Flax seed oil and/or Bee pollen.

I like to use vanilla yogurt, skim milk, a banana, a bit of honey, and fruit (the one I use is a pineapple, mango, strawberry mix) from the frozen food section of the grocery store. There's a recipe on the bag, and you don't need to add any ice. I don't measure anything; I just toss it all into the blender until it's the right consistency.

all the recipes are good but if you want to have a good smoothie fast use frozen daquari mix and ice and yogart i like raspberry the best but strawberry is good too. put the daquari mix in the blender add a cup of yogart any flavor and about 1 cup of ice and if you want it a little thinner add some 2% milk about a 1/4 of a cup. Great tasting.
