The church has a tradition of molesting and abusing children which goes back centuries. Maybe because there is nothing in the bible that specifically says harming children is wrong. In fact Psalms:137:9 says Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Why do some people hide behind "questions" to take pot shots at the church?
The truth is that no one hides behind the church to do anything.
The truth is that there is evil and sickness in everything humans have a hand in - including the church.
The truth is that a child is much more likly to be molested by it's parents than by it's priest.
The truth is that there are child molesters in every profession on earth - but I don't hear you railing against strippers of car sales men... Why? Becouse you have a bone to pick with the church that has nothing to do with child molestation - you just have some issue that leads you to hate - and the church for whatever reason is your target.
How about this - if child molestation bothers you so much (and I don't think it really does) what are you doing to prevent it?

The Church is good hiding place. But also, why do some people hide in the family in order to molest children?

I watched a documentary about this on HBO. Most of these men were self proclaimed pedophiles, admitting to themselves their sexual obssession with children long before they became priest, but thought that becoming a celebate priest would suppress their sick urges, but all it did was make the urge that much greater, especially being around alter boys so much. The church is wrong for trying to cover it up. They didn't exactly condone such behavior, but did a terrible job at trying to remedy the problem themselves. The church is all about suppressing scandal and as we all know they're not exactly good at it...my 2 yr old cousin could do a better job.
Also I have a problem with the whole celebate issue. I think a priest would be more morally balance if he had a family to love and a way to release sexual desires with a wife, than if he were to be single and celebate his whole life. It's not natural and it's a proven fact that in many cases the Catholic Church supplies their priest with "sexual releases" regularly in order to maintain the sanity of their priests.

Because we live in a sexually repressed society where we have all been taught to be ashamed of our sexuality, rather than expressing it as the natural gift given to us by God.
The shame associated with anything sexual or of the body is indoctrinated into us from the earliest of ages. Don't touch there, don't be naked etc.
If we were taught to embrace our natural sexuality in a healthy way from the very beginning, and have healthy relationships without judgment, there would be no reason for people to later feel ashamed of or suppress their very natural feelings, no reason for people to do this to the point of frustration, fewer sexual hang ups, and thus no need to take advantage of or abuse or attack those more vulnerable when these urges overtake them.
They hide behind the Church because it is unnatural Church doctrines, not allowing priests and nuns to marry, suppressing the natural sexuality that all humans possess, which lead to the abuse of vulnerable children in the care of these persons of authority.
Now, that being said, to be fair, there are many tens of thousands of priests and nuns in positions of authority who are simply wonderful, marvelous people and would never dream of harming a child, but it is still an unnatural lifestyle to lead and for those who succumb to the pressure, children are most often the victims.

Sadly there are those who would interpret certain passages that give them god's grace to "suffer little children to come unto me" or perhaps they've read the story of Lot and believe it is god's covenant that daughter's be available for father's procreation needs. It only takes one tiny turn of biblical phrase to make it god's will. Then there are the Catholics that have brought the shame on themselves for advocating celibacy which is a major sin against nature. That is why some pervs hide behind the church.

Because there are people in the church with major problems just like there are people outside the chruch with major problems. It does not excuse them, it just shows that they are actually human. Even the POPE is nothing more than a mere mortal human bound to screw up on a regular basis. It is a basic fact of life that we all must accept. We are all human and are all thus bound to make mistakes.
Personally, I blame, to some extent, the pressures of the church (primarily the Catholic Church) telling their people that they must supress overwhelming desires, thus destroying their bodies faster (proven fact) and breaking them down mentally. I seriously doubt that there is even one absolutely celibate priest, monk, bishop, or any other church official left on the face of the Earth. If they are celibate physically, I gaurantee that thy are not mentally.

It sad that this behavior happens, what;s even sadder is that the church tranfers the offender to another chruch out of sheer embarrasment. No ones needs this type of publicity, especially in a well respected community. So they console the family promise that it never happen again. But it is the victim that suffers the most. Makes you wonder what God they serve.

I don't blame the church for this per se. However, the Catholics have most definitely placed their organization's reputation over the welfare of their members. That is obvious, and I'm amazed that there are any Catholics left in the world, after seeing what a twisted, evil organization they truly are.
But as for the pedophiles, they will simply go where the kids are, baseball, boy scouts, daycare, etc. It only makes sense...

Because they are trusted alone with children and the kids parents have always told them that the Pastor/Priest is a good role model and when he speaks they should listen to what he says... Ex: In church: 5 year old boy is talking to his friend who is a 5 year old girl... Mom and dad of the boy and girl tell them to be quiet and listen to the Priest... Next week the Priest molests one of them, he tells them not to tell anyone... Little boy and little girls parents told them to listen to him, so they do...
