HI, there are all kinds of video editing programs out there. Some are free, but I recomend buying a middle of the road product like Adobe premiere elements, especially if you see yourself doing alot of editing in the future. Online I recommend looking for sights that offer tips on improving your camera work. The better the footage going into the editing program, the better it looks coming out.

Off line I recomend three things:

A) Computer Videomaker magazine. They have a websight, but to really use it effectively you need a subscription. They have great articles written for beginer and hobbyist videographers and editors. Worth a years subscription.

B) Digital Video for Dummies. I have an older version for premiere 6.1, but there is a new version I have seen for pinnacle software. This is a great refrence book with tips on lighting, editing, titleing, special effects, etc. I still refrence mine from time to time.

C) Take an access television production class. OFten times they are free from your local access television station. This will give you a good insight into how to make a good show. Once you know the basics, then it is a simple matter of translating that into a good video using editing software.
