Depends how formal the occassion.
Some weddings have open bar, others cash bar, and others serve just wine or champagne.
Some weddings have a buffet, but most have a sit down dinner with 2 choices -- usually chicken or beef. Some sort of starch -- potato or rice and a veggie.
Dessert is usually the wedding cake.

Out door mid-day reception - finger sandwiches
Formal evening reception - full course meal
Semi-formal reception - BBQ, buffet style or something like that
The menu will depend on your budget, the season (time of the year), availability of the food you want, and the formality.
You food is about 30% of your budget. Use that as a gage to get you started.
Blessings

Whatever you want. It depends on your budget. At my wedding I had finger food and appetizers. But I have been to weddings wherein full course meals were served. Determine what you would like and what you can afford.

At my wedding we had pea soup, artichokes with dip, taglioni with trüffeln, asparagus with some sort of chicken (I'm vegetarian, so I don't what kind of chicken we had), a waldmeister parfait, and cake. All were served as seperate courses.

Hopefully edible food. . .
And it's served at the reception, not at the wedding.

They have themed buffets that are cultural senstive. However, the norm seems to be chicken or steak w/ vegtables, potatoes and bread...
