It's a quote from the Sound of Music. "Whenever God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window." I believe the reverend Mother says it to Maria, but I'm sure it's found elsewhere long before the Sound of Music. There's also a similar phrase often quoted from Helen Keller, "When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us."

Yes I like it. But I'm not too sure about the beginning. We don't get a picture in our heads until the fifth sentence - on days like this, you open your window and sit. It would be great to start with this image, so that the stuff about loving rain is in context. But also, that image of a girl sitting by the window is confusing, because actually you're standing by the window, and then you lie down... Personally, I would start "I had been waiting at my open window all day" - then we want to know what you're waiting for and it immediately draws us in. Then I'd have a slow description of the storm, a bit like you have already, and mention everything from the first paragraph in that build up as I get more and more excited. Also it's slightly weird that your character has apparently been waiting for this storm all day, but then as soon as it starts she has to be somewhere else. I think you should be more specific about this time constraint. Or else have her go out deliberately while it's raining because she loves it! Anyway, generally, yeah, I enjoyed it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

In The Sound Of Music, she says, "Whenever God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window". It basically means that just because one opportunity is no longer available, doesn't mean that there's not another one right around the corner. Also, that God will not take one path away, without giving you another way to go (when reaching your desired goals).

When one door closes, another one opens.
No clue as to the origin.

Actually, it originated with Maria von Trapp (the real one) in her autobiography, on which "The Trapp Famol;y Singers" (a German movie), which inspired R & H to write the musical.
