I am asking for serious answers only. I have been talking to marine recruiters about joining the reserves for now, until I get out of college. I have not yet asked them about what people in the reserves do. Can they deploy you if you are in the marine reserves and still a full time college student? What sort of infantry jobs are available to reserve soldiers? I can't find them on their website. Do they have a paratrooper division like in the army?

First, there are no paratrooper units in the Marines. Yes reserve Marines can be deployed, and are. Your college will be frozen where you are if you get called up. Reservists have all the same jobs that full timers have, they just have less time to train, which is why a drill weekend is pretty much nonstop. Dont listen to anyone who says reservists arent real Marines. Same boot camp, same MCT, same MOS school. Since the Marine Corps adopted the Total Force Policy, the role reservists play have gotten bigger and bigger. Dont matter if your a reservist or full time, black or white, male or female, your a Marine. Period.

Yes the Marine reserves can and will deploy you even if you are in college, and a full time student. Any job on active duty is available to reservists. The Marines do not have a paratrooper division like the Army, however they do have Recon, which is an intelligence gathering unit, that does earn their Jump wings. Any military reservist can be activated and deployed at any time including Army so don't let any recruiter tell you different. Also really think about it. remember reserve duty means reserve training. I was an active duty Corpsman then went into the reserves. When I was activated for desert storm the guys I was with (Many outranking me) were not trained nearly as good as I was . The things I did everyday like stabilize a trauma victim many had never done, and had to learn on the fly. The Marine units were better prepared, but would have been much better off with more training.

I am a Marine. I worked at the Reserve Support Unit. A Reserve Marine can hold any job that an Active Duty Marine can. Reserve Marines are Active Duty Marines until they Graduate Marine Combat Training. The Reserve then attend Military Occupational Specialty School for their jobs. Reserves train 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. Reserves are deployable based on the needs of the Corps. Paratroppers wish they were MARINES.

Man, if you are in college, I would'nt recommend going into any branch right now. Recruiters will guarantee you the world, then after you sign, BAM. If you really wanna go in, and have a blast, your best bet would be to go be a com guy, and go do ANGLICO(Air Naval Gunfire Liason COmpany). Those guys get plenty of jump time. If you really wanna do some high speed low drag stuff, go guaranteed Infantry (0300) into boot camp, when you get to SOI (School Of Infantry), the Recon bubbas come around asking for volunteers for the Recon Indoc. Recon is basically like SEALs, but they are Marines. They're pretty high speed. If you really wanna get your education first, and go do the Corps as a reservist, maybe you wanna try being an LAV Crewman (0313). If you really dont give a $hit, and wanna just get yer foot in the door, go be a POS Air Winger. But if you wanna jump, seriously try ANGLICO, but you gotta find out what units are in your area, for all you know you may have a lame a$$ supply unit in your area. Either way, I'd do some research on what units are in your area first, unless you dont mind moving closer to where your unit is at.

Yes you can be deployed while a student. They all the same jobs as do the full time force. Do a search on 0311, 0321,0331,0341,0351,and 0352. Those are the USMC infantry MOSes. And no the Corps does not have a paratrooper div.
