I have pondered this before myself. I watch as so many ministers in my community drive around in caddys. Or golf at one of the many high priced clubs around these parts. But then on Sunday stand in front of a congregation and preach the "so called" word of god. I watch housewives drive away from there 750000 dollar homes in a big SUV. And then go to church on Sunday and ask a god who isn't there why they are so stricken. Hypocrites are everywhere. It amazes me. Of course it may have something to do with christians "we are right you are wrong" attitude. Or maybe it is the "we are better because we are christians" attitude. Who knows really. But this is truly one of the many reasons why I will not bow before a god who will not hurt those who lie so deeply and behave in such a hypocritical manner.

I don't really have a good answer for this one other than they are greedy and are not gaining any spiritual growth from their religion. I addressed this issue, sort of, with my dad's hardcore Christian family once. I proclaimed that money was the root of all evil and my aunt said that it was, but it was a neccessity, which I found to be a great contradiction. Did Christ need money? What about that dude who was told by god to give up all his material possessions?

This is just another example of Chrisitians picking and choosing between the lessons that are taught in the bible. While I don't believe it is necessary to give up all your nice things and live like a bum on the streets, I do think that in order to be happy you should recognize that money isn't going to solve all your problems and I think most people who are so well off that they never have to worry about having enough money often have a lot more stress in their lives because of it.

That is an extremely generalized blanket statement which should not even be considered for a legitimate question. There is no such thing as a 'Good Christian' that is obsesses over money and gaining material things. If you actually believe that 'Good Christians' are so obsessed with getting more than you have either been brainwashed or your perspective of the world is greatly skewed.

Perhaps you do not see the picture quite so clearly:

You are correct in the saying the love of money is the root of all evil (most people misquote it as just money is the root of all evil).
Maybe the "good Christians" are seeking more in order to help others.
They probably aren't worshiping money but are attempting to gain it in order to support the things they love, such as the church.

Dunno, just my .02

We cannot judge the hearts of others, but you can judge according the fruit produces from the tree. If there are "Christians" obsessed with money then they either are not true Christians and never knew Christ or that is issue that they have. We don't know how God is dealing with people, what he says to them or how convicted they are. It would do us all well to pray for others and worry about the log lodged in our own eyes.

Remember, God called to judge according to righteous judgment. Judge according to everything that is right and good, which means judge according to the bible.

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

This is the actual quote, therefore if you want money for good purposes and use it for those good purposes--there is no evil involved.

My advice, make all you can, but be a Good person.

Because they are really evil and want to spread it as far as possible. Mother Teresa was a good christian, and she lived a modest, humble life. Jesus also led that kind of life.

The Christians you are talking about are more interested in "winning converts" and becoming powerful than they are in actually doing any good.

"The love of money is the root of all evil"

I try not to use colocialisms like this one. It's lard to build a competant opinion around them. Something else I try not to say:
"That's the LAST thing I'd do!" and "Never".
