Matthew 19: 23-25
23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "What I'm about to tell you is true. It is hard for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is hard for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. But it is even harder for the rich to enter God's kingdom."
25When the disciples heard this, they were really amazed. They asked, "Then who can be saved?"
26Jesus looked at them and said, "With man, that is impossible. But with God, all things are possible."
Pay particular attention to verse 26
Jesus wanted the disciples and us to realze that we are dependant on God, and without him we can do nothing.

Actually, and it seems that most people have caught on to this but for those who haven't...
The Bible actually says that it is easier for a poor man to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. The short answer for this question is that the Bible says this because it's in the Bible. However, to understand this depends on interpretation. For instance, the book of Exodus contains several laws, many of which involve someone being put to death for things where death would not even be considered for by today's standards. A rich man can enter the kingdom of heaven, what is intended to be taken away from this is the principle. For a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven, that man must not use his money in ways that would be frowned upon by God, use his money for good, etc.

The Bible says that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. (It does not say it's easier for the poor man than the rich man)
The eye of the needle was a kind of gate in Israel where a camel had to be off loaded of all its good and had to stoop to go through. The teaching meant that for a rich man to enter Heaven those riches must not be his god.
God does not hate the rich, as a matter of fact Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Boaz, David, Solomon etc were rich. He deals with the heart not so much with the abundance of physical things. If the rich man remembers the poor, does not use his wealth to do wicked things, does not withhold his worker's wages even for one day, God is for him. If on the other hand he uses his wealth do do evil, bribe the government to set up wicked laws and if he worships his wealth then unless he changes he'll never enter God's Kingdom.

The correct phrase is, "It is easier for a camel to pass the the eye of the needle than for a rich man to go to enter the kingdom of God." Matt 19; 22-30
The "eye of the needle" was a small gate in the wall of Jerusalem, and camels could not go through it.
The new rich Christian right interpret this as meaning nothing. It is from the New Testament, and we know how little these "Christians" really care for the New Testament. Give them an eye for an eye every day, no forgiving seventy times seven for them!

Historically, the eye of a needle is a narrow passageway between two cliffs. The statement in the Bible is not referring to a sewing needle, which would be impossible. It is possible for a camel to pass through the "eye of a needle", it is just not easy. The same is true for a rich man. If he is not very careful to make sure that he does not become selfish and greedy he may not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Often, people with great wealth feel that they do not need anything else, including God. That is my opinion.

First of all, I think the Biblical statement was "it is easier for a cow to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven". The idea that a rich man is so materialistic that he will lose his sense of charity and good will, hence have a very difficult time getting into heaven. For effect, the bible author (or who ever that Supreme Being's agents may have been), used an extremely unlikely occurence to portray that difficulty.

Kookoo Bananas has appropriately named himself.
Here is the correct verse: Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:23-25
The eye of the needle in the bible times was a very small gate to the city that would be the only gate into the city at night. It was so small that camels would have to get down on their knees to pass through.

This is a way of saying that it is not easy to go in GODS Path. For example, A rich man will NOT want to let go of all his possesions to serve god. In the other hand, poor people dont have that problem because they have nothing to lose, instead they become RICH in another form. They are spiritually blessed by GOD. For example, when Jesus asked two of his discipuls to follow him, (The two fishermen) they both agreed and left behind their business of fishing to do gods will which of course brought them lots of happiness and they became RICH in that sense. Thats what the needle story is trying to say. A poor man can go thru the needle but a Rich cant because he will want to bring all his material things with him which will not fit through the EYE of the needle.

The actual verse says that its easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. Not sure why....if that rich man does a lot to help others he can still be rich. But, I think when the Bible says rich...I think its talking more about "greediness" and not wanting to give up your riches for others. If you are rich, don't be greedy, help others whenever you can!

First you have to understand what the eye of the needle really is. This eye is not a sewing needle. Instead it was narrow gate. The men who rode their camels literally had to take everything off and have the camels pushed through the gate. So when Jesus says this He's takling about the humbleness the many poor people have and that many rich people do not.
