maybe you should explain why your husband whats to do this. Is it for swimming? Or does he feel she should just have the experience? Dunking them underwater for just that split second is like blowing in a cats face. Your going to take her breath away for a second, I don't see any harm in it, and my daughter loved it after i did it to her to get her used to the water. She would laugh so hard. The answer is always going to be...To each his own.

By dunking,I hope you mean gently sliding under the surface of water for about two seconds TOPS. Otherwise,I wouldn't really recommend doing that. But,it has been proven new borns can stay under water longer than most people because they were in the fluid of the womb for 9 months..so,is this a pool or a tub?

Germany have newborns swimming. I took my son 2 months old at the time, to the pool, blew in his face (so he would hold his air), and let him go. He swam better than the 6 yr olds. You carried your child in body fluids, was that wrong?
Today my son is a strong swimmer, and never has been afraid of the water.

All the people who are freaking out about this, probably don't understand what you're asking. Of course your husband isn't trying to drown/kill your baby! Women give birth in water. I say the younger, the better. Its not like he's going to be holding her head under water - geez!

Yes, have you ever seen 3 Month olds swim, the sensation of swimming is natural, given that prior to birth the baby is in a compact space surrounded by fluid. Babies are not as fragile as people think or fear.

If he is trying to teach her to swim then it is alright because you can teach a baby at 6 months old to swim. I taught all three of my daughters to swim at 6 months. Tell him to blow directly into her face first and then just to stick her under for a second, then bring her back up. When you blow in a babies face they hold their breath, this will teach her to hold her breath under water.

Actually it just sounds bad but babys are really good swimmers cause you have to realize they are being born in a sack of fluid. So it's okay scientifically speaking but just let the baby move on it's own.

It is safe if she isn't drinking or inhaling the water. You could actually get her swimming lessons at this age and she will learn how to do that on her own. It is easier for them to learn now anyway.

Why would he want to do that? Are we talking about bath time? Is she swimming in a pool? Either way, she is way too young. Dad is a bully!

No, you probably shouldn't do that. Bathe your child like your doctor instructed you to. I have heard that children as young yours can be taught to swim, but you need to have a certified swim instructor teach you and your child what to do.
