The dealer sells them to wholesalers who sell them to used car lots. If they are truly wretched, twenty years old, etc., they might be sold directly to a dismantler, or to the crusher.

They are bought and sold at auto auctions. Then if they aren't sold on the lot, the dealer generally takes them back to the auctions to sell. That's mostly for used car dealers.
