Yes, I agree it needed to be done, I also say it is time to come home.
We should have just blown them off of the map and pretend that they never existed.

If the war in Iraq is about oil, then why didn't we just take the country? We removed Saddam from power, why not just set up a little mini-America? Why are we establishing a government instead of having our newly acquired state vote for a senator?
Funny how when the whole deal started we (as a country) seemed to be wholly supportive of the effort. We're more than a little impatient, I think. We also like clear win/loss scores, and Iraq is a little too messy for that.
I don't know all of the answers. I think that a lot of information is not revealed to the public that would be pertinent to making any definitive statements.
I support our troops. I think the war is over. I think we're still there on clean-up duty under some really hostile conditions. I think we'll be there for a while. I think the world community would hate us if we pulled our troops now.

I am a recently, medically retired veteran. I was hurt and retired prior to 9/11, but I fought in Iraq (Take I). I believed then and continued to believe Hussein to be a viper, the most dangerous government leader in the area since Qaddafi. He thought nothing of slaughtering the people, putting him in the same catagory as Idi Amin was and Mbutu is. We should have removed him then, but our alliance felt that was going to far. We must sometimes bow to our allies, because acting unilaterally gets us into trouble (witness the reaction this time around the world). Saddam Hussein didn't get the hint from 1991. So we went in again under the most bogus of pretenses (although I don't believe oil is the complete reason either). However, now that we are there, I believe we support the troops. I firmly believe that we don't leave our young men and women in harm's way. I have no problem with the politicians disputing the reasons for entering into a state of armed conflict with Iraq and debating the President's suitability for making the decisions he makes, also Cheney and Rumsfield. I don't trust them out of my sight. As long as they get the soldiers the equipment they need to prosecute the war. In the military we don't publically say how we feel about the CinC, the ViP, or the SecDef. We may talk internally, discuss matters, etc, but nothing gets out. Once we leave the military though, the gloves are off. There are no restrictions. I commanded my unit, I fought it well and lost no one, just a handful of wounded and a handful of non-combat injuries. I was fortunate. I still am of the belief we did the right thing in 1991. This time it's a confused mess. Thank God there's no competent opposition, or we'd have a lot more losses and I think we'd be ready to head home, given the public's mood. I believe that Bush would lose any referendum to the contrary. Cheney should be indicted/impeached over his past role at Halliburton and current continued connections with them, and Rumsfeld as well, for general obfuscation of the truth, lying to Congress repeatedly. All three are a disgrace to the offices they hold and the oaths they swore. I don't trust them at all and it would be difficult to put my soldiers in harms way for any of them.

The president said at the very start it would be long. The progress being made is phenomenal. I Pray for our troops constantly and it is painful each time I hear of a loss, but I think the job they are doing is important. It is making the world safer and showing the Iraqis a way of life they have never known. Freedom is like a good disease..once it's in your system it's hard to get rid of and readily spreads to those around you. Al Qaida is being steadily dismantled every day...this can do nothing but improve security against terrorism internationally and in the United States. Yes I absolutely support the war.

Sorry, but anyone who thinks the war in Iraq is about oil is an idiot. Plain and simple. If we were there to take their oil, well then where is it? And why is gas so much more expensive, instead of cheaper?
Anyway...
The United States took military action against Iraq for its stated reasons. It was that simple. Saddam Hussein had refused to comply with the requirements placed upon him by the United States and the international community after his defeat in the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He refused to disarm and show the world that he had disarmed. He refused to surrender banned weapons in his possession. And he continued to commit murder and in some cases genocide against his own subjects.
For these reasons, regardless of what some malcontents may think about Bush (and Halliburton, for that matter), I completely support the president and the Americans in Iraq.
When you get nervous about your friend, remember that, when you factor in how many people have passed through Iraq since 2003, the percentage of American sevicemembers losing their lives in Iraq is something like .008%.

Marine General Smedley Darligton Butler said "not one American Soldier, Sailor or Marine's life is worth an oil well in Iraq!"

Jen is right ya know. Iran was pro-west when they deposed the Shah and made Khomeini their supreme leader. Apparently trying to manipulate Arabs so we can try to manipulate world oil prices is not such a good idea.
As for the present situation, never saw the need for it. If Bush cared about American lives, he would've planned a better strategy than destroying their infrastructure. He forgot we would need support of the Iraqi people to create a good situation out of his mess. And at present, I won't be surprised if they turn out to be another Iran.
Now ? We are in a difficult situation because of how badly we disrupted their lives and with over 10,000 Iraqi civilians killed, not sure how we can convince them we're on their side. And their support is something that would help our troops.

Your friend is brave and I wish the best for him and pray that God watches over him and all other soldiers and sailors. I support this war. We are helping the women of iraq to be free among many other wonderful things. We are helping them to be a better country. There is a great importance in what we are doing over there. It is too bad that people are losing loved ones over there. However, it is a war worth fighting.

I don't necessarily support the war but I do support our troop that are there. I think it would be more harmful to pull out now. They are getting closer to being independent but still need some help with it. Most of the soldiers who are there are glad to be doing their job. This is what they signed up and trained for. My husband is there now. He doesn't like being away from home but he is proud to be fighting for his country and doing his part. Good luck to your friend. I hope he comes home safely.

I agree with the war in Iraq, I personally do not care if it was for WMD (that we found), humanitarian purposes, instilling a new government for a better region, revenge for Bush, or even oil.
Truth is that Saddam was a bad ************ who needed to be taken out for all these reasons.
This war was much over due.

The war is hell thats for sure. Being the first military operatives to deploy in the war is just more hell than ever. I support the troops in the war, but not the damn US government for putting us in this type of situation.
