I have a 9-month old shih tzu and he is great with kids! If you can do it, I suggest a Golden Retriever because they are so friendly with kids of all ages. They do shed, need daily walks, and monthly baths so make sure you know if you have some spare time before you get a Golden Retriever. Shih Tzu's need a grooming about three times a year. A normal groom costs about 50 dollars. I adore both my Shih Tzu and Golden Retriever so I suggest both! If you get both, I suggest getting both females because they might get attracted to each other or fight if a male gets in.

a shih tzu is good w/ kids but can be dominate, a maltese is a lap dog it will lay and sleep w/ you but if u get a puppy they aren't good w/ little kids and if they fall off a chair or bed they snap their neck immediatly and die and a poodle is very energetic and needs exercise and isn't good w/ small kids cause it could bite if a baby plays w/ it or pulls its hair so i would recommend a maltese, yorkie,( but they have a risk at a young age of falling and dying) or a golden retriever they are great w/ children

shih tzu are cute, small, are kind to kids, love getting their belly scratched, they are usually white or white w/ brown "strips". poodles are snotty, you wouldn`t like them at all, they do what they want to do!!!
