I recommend starting at the beginning. So much of the life and purpose of Christ is tied up in man's fall and inability to atone for his own sin that you really must understand that to fully appreciate the New Testament.

I normally recommend the New Testament first. I you are fairly familiar with the Bible already, mixing it up isn't a bad idea. I have a one-year Bible that has daily readings that includes a few Chapters of the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms, and a Proverb. It's approximately a 20-minute read per day, and you'll cover the whole Bible within a year.

Good question. Genesis is a good place to start because the foundations are laid there. I might go to the Gospel of John then who shows that Jesus is the Christ , the Son of God who is God. Then to Hebrews to see how Christ is superior to all the Old testament Prophets and ceremonies. Then maybe some from Exodus and or Deuteronomy to see the Old and its relation to the New . Then to Romans to understand Justification or How is a sinful man ever to stand before a Holy God. Then to the Psalms to see the Heart of a man of God. Somewhere in there or at the same time study Proverbs to see how the Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom. Seem like a lot but something like this I think would be a profitable journey first and then to the rest.

I believe it would be better for a person with very little knowledge of the Bible to read sections first. It would be extremely beneficial for you to join a Bible Study group. Once a person has a good understanding of the Bible, it is much easier to read it from beginning to end.
Proverbs is s great book to read if you want to learn about discipline. Psalms and Ecclesiatics are great books for comfort. The Gosspels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are great for life of Christ. First and second John are very informational and comforting. Revelations teaches of what is yet to come.
there are some great Study Bibles you can purchase. They have explanations of what you are reading. They also break the Bible studying down in sections and help give direction. Some contain: Dictionaries. Bibliographies. Maps. Et al. Enjoy the journey.

There is book along with DVD which I am reading now that help you to understand the whole Bible in several weeks.
I do believe though that only God can reveal to you personally what the Bible is saying. So, pray and ask God's help as you read.
The book start from the very beginning and answers so many question while presenting the whole theme of the Bible.
You must know first and foremost that the whole Bible is about one Person: JESUS. If you read it wheater by yourself or with help, you will find Him in every book of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
Check www.goodseed.com, the book name is "The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus". You will love the visual aids they put on the DVD to help you understand the Bible.

you start with the new testament first, you might get confuse on the culture on how things work on the old testament. also you might get bored in numbers and alot of names... you may want to mix psalms and proverbs while reading new testaments... well after you finish new testament... and you already have to move to the old you should be detail concious... there are alot of nice small details that are in the old testament some are hidden among the list of names such is the story about jabez...
you might not understand very well the books of few prophets if you encounter such problems ASK! ask people who are knowledeable to help you... happy reading..
note: you will notice that while reading the same bible, you find out that it is not the same as the last time
have a nice day.

Bible. The word actually means: 'Library' if I remember correctly. So as in a library, there are different sections. Referrence, legal, historical, etc.
Begin at the beginning. By the time you get to the end, the beginning will seem like more because you'll know more and see things you hadn't thought about before.
It's not a novel. Lots of people ' have read the bible. ' No they didn't. They waited in the lobby and left.

I would start with the New Testament first and if you would like I can send you a reading list where you can read the entire New Testament in a year, it only takes 5-10 minutes a day! Let me know! Best wishes and good reading!

My suggestion is to go online to www.carm.com. This in an apologetic school, that teaches both doctrine and theology. This should help you learn more about the Bible, as well as the Christian faith. But it does cost some money.
However, my suggestion is to start with either Exodus, John, or Romans, if you want to just learn by reading. Also, if you want there are online Bible sites that offer commentary, such as Bible Gateway. You can go to my website, Sword of the Cross, at www.katgum.com, and click on the links page. There will be several links that will help you study the Bible, including Bible Gateway and Carm.

New Testament is more relevant to Christians, but the Old Testament is very important. I'd say, go where the Spirit leads you. Read which ever one speaks the most to your soul. I've not read the Bible from cover to cover, but I'm always in it, reading passages where the Spirit leads me and it has been more valuable to me than any advice I could ever get from the people on this forum. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your reading and you will read what you need to when you need to.

I think you should read the new testament first that way you get to know your Redeemer first hand. The old testament has a lot of great things in it but it takes study to understand a lot of it. You don't need to study and have manuals for the new testament, the lord makes it very clear most of the time.
