Go to Bookmarks then Manage Bookmarks. Under File in the new window that comes up, click Export, which will create a .htm file containing all your bookmarks. Save this file.

Then reinstall Firefox, go to Manage Bookmarks again, then Import, and import the .htm file you saved in the previous version. This will put the bookmarks you have in the .htm file into your new Firefox.

all browsers keep their bookmarks in a folder somewhere on your computer. if firefox crashed or had a fatal error and corrupted the program, the folder will still be there. load firefox and the new program SHOULD automaticly look at the same folder your previous one did and your bookmarks will be intact.

I would also suggest using http://del.icio.us in a supplemental fashion since your bookmarks are stored on a server. If you tend to reformat often I highly recommend it.
