Heartburn itself is a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux and GERD. Heartburn sufferers may salivate excessively or regurgitate stomach contents into their mouths, leaving a sour or bitter taste.
Other symptoms of GERD include:
• difficult or painful swallowing
• sore throat
• hoarseness, laryngitis, wheezing, coughing
• pneumonia
• gingivitis, bad breath
• earache

I had severe GERD and was unable to take any meds for it due to interaction of it with other drugs. My doctor asked me (if your Mom is allowed - check with her docs first) to chew on sugar free gum or candy for half an hour+ till the GERD goes away. GERD as you may know is gases coming up and when you chew gum, your mouth produces saliva which pushes the gases back down where they belong. I am not in the medical field. I also eat small meals 5+ times a day. This was how it was explained to me. I also take apple cider vinegar daily in my salad which helps a lot, as per my PCP's advise who practices both Allopathy and natural medicine! Hope this helps your Mom too.

Its common, and can get worse of course by what you eat and worse by lying down after you eat. Some of these symptoms are similar to MI issues (heart attack). Get a stress test done with your DR. sometime if you haven't already. Some people have GERD and think these sympotms are from that and then come to find out they have been having MI issues and have a 90% coronary block.

I have severe GERD but I've never been dizzy or faint. You could be suffering from angina or lack of oxygen to your heart. You should be checked out by a cardiologist ASAP!

Argh, acidez.
